G'day,

A few people have asked me off net if I was going to the USA this year and the answer is yes.

I decided to get out of Sydney for an extended period of time subsequent to Helen's passing away as not having to wander around our
home on my own will help me cope with the loss.

I have made the following arrangements / flight bookings:

March 16th - Fly Sydney to Houston - Work on Double Trouble
March 23rd - Fly Houston to Knoxville - Work on the Kingsley at Chuck Boyd's shop
April 8th - Drive Kingsley from Knoxville to Dothan - Attend GMCMI Convention
April 16th - Drive Kingsley from Dothan to Houston

April 30th - Fly Houston to San Diego
May 2nd - Attend GMCWS Rally in Temecula - Will give a seminar on "Centering the Steering Box"
May 5th - Fly San Diego to Knoxville
May 6th - Attend Dixielanders Bean Station Rally
May 9th - Fly Knoxville to Houston

August 13th - Fly Houston to San Francisco - Visit with Manny and JimK
August 17th - Fly San Francisco to Sydney

I have not made the following flight arrangements as the dates below are not firm yet:
June 18th to 24 - Fly Houston to Newark - Visit family & friends in NY / NJ area
June 27th - Drive up to Windsor Locks, CT to attend Hamilton Standard Retirees Luncheon on June 28th
June 30th - Fly from Newark to Orlando - Visit family & JimB
July 5th - Fly from Orlando to Houston

I've checked Bdub's website for Rallies being held by other clubs but at the moment it's blank.

Question:

Have the summer rallies for the Midwest GMC Classics, Greater Midwest GMC Classics, GMCES been scheduled?

Regards,
Rob M.
The Pedantic Mechanic

Rob,

That's an ambitious schedule! Lots to accomplish at each phase.

Just one problem that I see: That 8 April drive from Knoxville to Dothan
is too long -- after 415 miles, it'll put you in Dothan too late & tired.
Better you come to Americus on the 7th & we'll caravan the final 110 miles
on the 8th. Or arrive earlier for a longer visit or earlier arrival at
GMCMI.

I second Dennis on attending the Special Summer Family Convention. June
25-July 1.
This was planned so those with young children can attend as they will be
out of school and come , as there will be activities planned.
I'm sure Kim , or Executive Director will inform us more

Ken,

I scheduled the drive for the 8th to allow Chuck and I the max amount of time to go through the Kingsley to make sure it is 100%
road worthy to make it to the GMCMI Convention then back to Houston.

Having said that you have a good point and breaking it into two sections with a 350 mile test run followed by a stopover at your
home is a good idea.

Thinking about it a bit I reckon Chuck and I need to do our best to get done by the 4th so I can do a 350 mile test run down to your
place where we can do double check everything Chuck and I did.

Come to think of it one of the things that need doing is installing one of your electric wiper kits which you and I could do at your
place.

Regards,
Rob

Gene,

Close! Good on yah, Mate!

Re me teaching Yanks Strine (Australian) - I'm working on a repair job at the facility where I have my unit and keep The Blue Streak
with our caretaker. I was gob smacked Friday when he asked me to pass him the FLASHLIGHT instead of TORCH! :-)

Re the Facebook info, please note that in the seminar I am mainly passing on what I learned from Dave Lenzi and Alex Ferrara!

Rob,

Glad to see you are hitting the road. Great schedule, will be good to see you again
in Dothan and Bean Station. I would come up to Knoxville, but ANNIE seems to like it
there too much and the last time she keep coming up with repairs that had to be done
before we eventually could get back on the road. I think my coach has a crush on Chuck.

When you are in Orlando, Ada said that the guest side of the house is all yours if you
would like it, and maybe even throw in a car. We are about 18 miles from JimB's.

What you have planned is similar to what I went thru when Jane died and the GMC community
and friends were a huge help to me (and still are).

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Rob,

GMC greater Midwest Classics 2016 Rally's:

June 1-5th at Camp Faribo, Faribault, MN:
http://www.campfaribo.com/

July 7th-10th at the St. Cloud Campround. ST. Cloud, MN
http://www.stcloudcampground.com/

My wife and I are excited to be hosting the July Rally. I am hoping my local friend with the 4x4 duramax diesel can attend, but I told him if he can't that I want to park that beast at the rally for the weekend for people to admire.

Both Rally's are an hour or less from the minneapolis/St. Paul airport. and I do have a guest room, less then 10 minutes from the st. Cloud campground.

I apologize for the shape of our midwest website, I believe i will have time this week to get it back on par with current information. I am heading to Orlando for 5 days with only 2 1/2 days of classes. So planning on sitting in some warmth and working on the site.

There was some talk of a couple other rally's, but these two are for sure.

I'll second that sentiment, Jim. Rob, surround yourself with as much
contact with people you care about during this time. Remember, you are
always welcome at the Hupy house too.

JimH, I don't know what others who have gone thru what Rob and Luther are going thru right now
but I know for me it was confusing time (and a scary one). There were times that I wished
people would leave me alone, it's like I'm not going to break like a China doll. Just treat
me the way you did before. Other times I craved people around me. My friends and the GMC
communities were great about that both ways. Gave me some space when I needed it but always
included and welcomed me. Without them I wouldn't have ever made it to where I am today.

One piece of advice: At Bean Station, Al and Marty had me repairing water lines and drain lines.
(they kept me busy with mindless busy work that helped). For that I will forever be grateful.
Really.

Jim, I don't know if you remember this, but I lost my first wife Mary, of
50 years due to an act of medical malpractice. I have been through the same
situation that you and Rob and many others in the GMC community have been
through. I was just trying to give Rob some encouragement, and to remind
him that he is not alone. He and I PM each other often and are very good
friends. Just my attempt to reassure him. Thanks for your concerns.

told him if he can't that I want to park that beast at the rally for the weekend for people to admire.

Both Rally's are an hour or less from the minneapolis/St. Paul airport. and I do have a guest room, less then 10 minutes from the
st. Cloud campground.

I apologize for the shape of our midwest website, I believe i will have time this week to get it back on par with current
information. I am heading to Orlando for 5 days with only 2 1/2 days of classes. So planning on sitting in some warmth and
working on the site.

There was some talk of a couple other rally's, but these two are for sure.

Jon
