Okay, I'm pretty certain that my intermittent furnace issues are voltage and current related.

As is often the case, the PO thought he knew more than General Motors, and rewired the house batteries for who knows why. I've worked at restoring all the wiring to factory and thought I was done. Almost.

My question is this: Where exactly is the physical location of the house battery connections for my 1974 Palm Beach? My house batteries are up front. Where does the positive house battery cable attach to the house 12 volt system? Where does the negative house battery cable connect to the aluminum body?

My house battery is grounded to the chassis and the positive goes to the battery solenoid on the passenger side firewall.

I have a 75 palm beach, and think I have original wiring. (your 74 could be different entirely)

I have chassis battery up front. a heavy gauge wire runs to the back, with a stud that is in the cabinet just toward the rear of the oven.(first cabinet under the drawers. that stud that is against the sidewall, has a wire feeding off it to the house fusepanel/converter/battery charger. hard to see, but it is there.

that wire continues to the rear, and next to my generator is where my house batteries are.

So if your battery was moved to the front from the rear, I would guess they might still use that heavy guage wire to feed the house side if your fuses are in that same cabinet. the connections in the front, are at the boost solenoid.

not sure if that helps.

Thanks Jon, but my house batteries are up front from the GM factory. in 73 and 74 the house batteries were up front. So, I'm thinking there must be a ground connection to the body close to the front. Still not sure about the positive location either.

House ground goes to frame. Body ground goes from frame bypassing the RF motor mount to body. It is usually a strap.
House hot goes to solenoid with another big red wire going to the back
Engine ground goes to engine
Engine hot goes to other side of solenoid with same size wire going to starter.

Hook the house battery negative cable to the same bolt IN THE BODY that the strap to the frame is mounted with. Many times that strap is badly frayed and / or the connection to the aluminum body is corroded. Clean that connection point, cables, and bolt thoroughly. Then coat all of them with anti-oxidation grease and reinstall them with star / tooth washers to enhance and maintain that connection in the future.

As a side note, if you have a factory installed Onan, there is a second body to frame jumper installed in the rear in the generator cabinet.
