Shoveled all the burned trash off the cover. Everything under there was total untouched. Glade my new cruise control was there. Thinking that if I cut the steps out that go to the driver's seat. Pull the axles, and disconnect everything else. Then use the backhoe to pull the engine , trans, and final drive as one unit. The advantage of owning a GMC that's a convertible. Bob,
No need to do anything to the body except remove the grille, lower trim
below it; and the bumper. Unbolt the front clip from the frame side rails
on each side, disconnect all the plumbing, wiring, and steering column from
steering box. Either by jacking the coach high enough, or using bare wheel
rims, roll the front clip out. The steering box may interfere with the
left front "fender", requiring it to be unbolted from the chassis, but in
your case, a saber saw or multi-tool attack on the fender might be easier &
acceptable.
When I R&R'd mine, I took an old A-frame tow bar and bolted its arm ends in
place of the removed bumper. Then hooked the tow bar to my ZTR mower and
pulled the clip wherever I wanted it:

Glad you noticed the torsion bars; I forgot to mention those in the list of
removals! Also forgot the brake cable. And the fuel filler pipe.
Not sure I understand about the steering box though.

You might try contacting the Father/Son Jim/James Miller in Hamilton OH.
As I recall, they did a salvage job by cutting through the floor and frame aft of the torsion bar crossmember and uplling the whole
driveline out the
front.
Last I saw it, they had added stands to the back of the frame and it stood on it wheels on their drive.
