I expect that most of you may already have the DVD conversion of the GMC Motorhome Dealer Training System and have noticed that a few of the videos are missing the audio portion.

It's fun to watch, I finally learned why GM put the fuel filler at the front instead of the back ... Laughing

I am trying to complete the Motorhome Service Training Video set and need your help to find the missing audio.

For those not familiar with the Bell and Howell Filmosound system , here is how it worked.

Each training tape is comprised of a 35MM film roll and an Audio Cassette. When played in the Bell and Howell system, the Film Roll advances in synchronization with the cassette audio.

The reason your DVD version of the Training series is missing some of the narrations , is because the Audio Cassette is missing.

If anyone knows of someone that has parts of this training series, please pass along my contact information.

If I can get the series completed, I will digitally remaster the series and make available for download.

Here is what a few of the tapes look like, you will notice a 35MM film holder attached to an audio cassette:

Carl,

Bill Bryant is the GMCer that put that DVD together, he's the only person that might be able to help you.

I have Cc'd him directly on this response.

Rob & Carl,

Sorry to say I am not the guy with the Dealer Training Films. I do have the 2 CD set which, if I recall correctly, Tom Lins was the guy that I bought it from. He is the same guy that digitized the GMC manuals and lives in NJ.

Back a few years ago I know that Dave Greenburg had an incomplete film set and a non functioning projector (mice had chewed wires). I had suggested to Tom at the time he might want to check with Dave to see if he might end up with a more complete film set. I don't know if any of that happened. Seems to me that Dave also knew of another film set, but I may be confusing it with the films he actually bought. Check with him on the details.

Good luck with your search,
Bill

Did anybody contact the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart. As I recall, their library has a large GMC collection.
I would, but I really don't know what to ask for.

Forest said that they really didn't have room for that kind of stuff and he's afraid that they'd just lose it or let it get ruined. He suggested a devoted GMCer take ownership for safe keeping.

A couple of years ago Forest Crow (a docent at the Elkhart RV/MH museum) and I attempted to upgrade the 1974 GMC MH on display and add to the GMC MH content of the library. I was able to get Wes Coughlin to donate a FULL SET of GMC MH Cinnabar service manuals & a set of his GMC News letters. Also got sets of GMC Western States news letters & a set of GMCMI news letters. These all reside (as of 4 yrs ago) in the libraries horizontal file cabinets, unmarked. There was little else in the library about GMC MHs at that time.

As some of you may know, I am in the process of finding new homes for my GMC MH Collectables. I have already given a large number of items to The GM Heritage Center, Sterling Heights, MI, will very soon be giving another batch to The Antique Automobile Club of America Library, Hershey, PA. Some of the residual may end up at the RV/MH Elkhart library, it originally had been my first choice due to location & purpose. I have visited there twice & agree with what others have said in the attached notes. The management did not seem interested in the GMC Motorhome, or improving it (very interested in current mfg'ers & contributors). The library was not well organized, and items did not appear to be secure, I even offered to fill an empty display case with GMC MH collectables, free, not interested.

In attempting to improve the 1974 GMC MH we had very limited success. The museum management was very restrictive in what could be done. It would be great if we could get a shroud for the Mark IV roof air, original seating upholstery covers, before they all get thrown away (forgot if it is a Canyon Lands or Painted Desert) and remove some of the original owner exterior stripes. Would be nice if we could get a work party together to improve things. There is new management now, maybe they could see the benefit.

Bill

It's fun to watch, I finally learned why GM put the fuel filler at the front instead of the back ... Laughing

Care to enlighten a GMC newbie as to why its up front? I understand the fuel tanks are in the front\middle of the coach and not at the back... Is that the reason? Hadn't really thought about the location being unusual till I read your comment...

There has been a lot of conjecture about this over the years on the GMCnet. If you think back to the 1970's it was not uncommon to
have a guy that pumped your gas, cleaned your windshield, checked your oil, etc. Locating the filler port up under the driver's
window allowed him to chat with the driver while filling the tanks.

Care to enlighten a GMC newbie as to why its up front? I understand the fuel tanks are in the front\middle of the coach and not at
the back... Is that the reason? Hadn't really thought about the location being unusual till I read your comment...

Hi Mark,

The reason for the forward fuel fill was to move as far from an ignition sources as possible. Examples, furnace, refrigerator, water heater, generator, etc. While building an empty MH (TransMode) GMC could not be sure where an ignition source might be placed. Up forward appears to be the safest.

According to the orientation Video. (Spoiler alert) Cool

" The fuel fill is placed at the front to avoid accidentally putting fuel in the water tank"

I had also heard somewhere that it was because they were going to offer the
GMC as a Transmode for others to outfit as an ambulance, post office,
showroom, etc. When they delivered it with a gutted interior for the company
to outfit, there was nothing protruding into the coach which would cause
them to have to allow for that in their own design. It was a blank canvas.

There has been a lot of conjecture about this over the years on the GMCnet.
If you think back to the 1970's it was not uncommon to have a guy that
pumped your gas, cleaned your windshield, checked your oil, etc. Locating
the filler port up under the driver's window allowed him to chat with the
driver while filling the tanks.
