Bob,
You can clearly see approximately what the original color was when you
uncover sections of the headliner that have been opaquely covered
"forever". Almost pure white. That color can be restored -- Google
"whitening plastic". It's not complicated, but it's also not very durable
-- paint seems to retain its color much better.
