Hyperlink basically means the URL is underlined in the text you send.

If it's in the message that way, you just click on it and your computer
connects directly to that desired site.

That is all true with regard to the Internet but in an Adobe Acrobat pdf file the term “hyperlink" is used interchangeable with the work “link” and there is a process within a pdf file to be able to click on a word and have that click automatically go to another page in the pdf document.

The procedure is that you click on the link tool and the cursor will turn to a crosshair. Drag a rectangle around the word or words that you want to serve as the “hot area”. When you release the mouse button Acrobat will present you with the Create Link dialog box. You can set the appearance and behavior of your link. Then you move to the area which you want to be the hot area’s destination and click the “set Link” button. There are other things you can do with the link tool but this is basically how it is done.

So, if you have a table of contents, for example, and want to link it to the start of each section, you can fairly easily do so. It is time consuming, especially if you want to link every word in the index of a document such as the GMC Maintenance Manual.

I have done this for some of the things listed on the GMCMI document site and it can take hours of your time.

Note that you cannot do this with Acrobat Reader or PDF reader. You must have Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Professional on your computer.
