Yes, Ken, the spread bore intake manifold could be cut down to take the square bore throttle body without an adapter and it would likely improve air flow to boot. I’m not an expert on machining cast iron but since all that needs to be removed is the center part of the top crown on the manifold, I doubt that it would be too difficult. I would suggest tracing the inside of one of the open gaskets onto the top of the manifold and follow the lines.

Jerry,

Quick followup on that: Recognizing the difficulty of doing so with the
manifold in place, does it appear feasible to re-machine the OEM manifold
to clear the interference with the butterflies?
