~~1000 miles round trip to Wekiwa Springs State Park in Apopka, Fl. The GMC ran flawlessly the entire trip, including the normal wait for a wreck or two in Atlanta. No overheating, no stumbling or stalling. When it idles, the temp actually drops a bit (I put it in neutral when sitting). In stop-and-go traffic, the fan clutch comes on, and the trans temp rises a bit... nothing out of the ordinary. I'm ready to declare previous problems solved with the electric pumps and the recored radiator. With the flare gaskets, the oil cooler lines are dry, and the oil level is maybe a quarter of a quart down from the full I started with. The final test will be the next time I pull Monteagle or take I 70 to Bean Station and pull the hill on the way. If it can do either, it's healed to my satisfaction.
I've three niggling little things to chase down. When there's a reflecting surface beside it like a bridge or wall, I get a tik-tik-rtik when the engine is loaded. Leaking gasket or exhaust sealing ring or a muffler dying. Inspection should tell which. When I disconnected the shore water and filled the tank and purged it the pump worked correctly. After turning the water off, I get a half second pump run every couple of minutes.. something's oozing. Again, inspection should turn up the culprit. And, the suspension pump comes on somewhat more often than it has in the past. Soapy water in a spray should find this. Just under 10MPG for the trip, with the Mousetoad clipped on the back. A week of good food and good companionship, and two days of young Sam the BWD meeting and greeting fairly happily at the dog show. Life is good.
