Hey Guys...

Need to buy a step to climb into the GMC...

I love the Ragusa Step but the $ 200 plus price is a bit much to take...

Would the standard metal RV step work ok? If so, do I want a one step or two step?

Thanks for the help...

Steve

The standard RV step will not work without modifying it a bunch. Unless you have the time talant and tools?
Bite the bullet and get the ragusa or make a stool type step

Steve,

For a number of years, we have carried, used and destroyed one of these. EBay item 221930668762.
These fold to a small package. I think JimK had one at Rapid City. If he does, you could get it shipped with other things.
I made a hook to hang it on the door while we travel, that is very handy.
You still have to make the 13" twice every stop. Once out and once in. If you try a drop placement it will land feet-up.
Just so you know, I have it on good authority that if you forget about it and run over it as you leave, it will do the coach no harm.

Matt

here is my solution: I don't think they are available new anymore:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Reebok-Blue-Aerobic-5-Position-6-10-Step-Inclining-Stepper-/281831207156?hash=item419e72f0f4:g:ItsAAOSwWnFV-b4d

The aerobic reebok adjustable step is not as light and compact as the one Matt posted, but it is solid, bigger, and adjustable height. Very handy to have the adjust-ability depending on the campsite. It is also adjustable side to side, if you are on a slant.

I do think it is much lighter then some of the folding metal steps available at the RV supply. I have also run this one over, and it made noise and I did not damage it, but I am sure if you drive over it/hit it right, it will break.(would not use it has a jack stand). I bought this after running over and destroying a metal step.

you can find them at goodwill/craigslist pretty cheap if you keep your eye out. I paid $10 for mine off Craigslist.

I think you are pretty much limited to a ragusa step, or some sort of portalble step. There are some that have made their own steps, but I have looked into doing the same, but I think with material and time, you are well on your way to just buying the ragusa.

On another Note, a while back, the Ragusa's was having some problems and their step became hard to find even new?? has that been resolved? (love my reebok step, but still plan on buying the ragusa myself, when I have an extra $250 that does not need to be spent on other parts to keep the GMC road worthy)

I have several of those, including one in the house's kitchen for wife to reach stuff on top shelves! I also keep one in the back of my pickup as well as one of the two-step 250 (or 300) pound version.

The combined price plus shipping is definitely more than what I paid for mine. They should be available at any RV park and/or Camping World. Wally World might even have them!

In addition to the plastic folding step shown earlier, I also have a heavy duty folding aluminum step with individually adjustable legs (for uneven ground) that I bought on-line from Camping World during one of their regular offerings of it on sale. Not cheap, but I have not bothered to install the Ragusa step that I bought. I stow that folding aluminum step just inside the entry door when it is not on the ground beside the coach.

Besides the most popular Ragusa step, we have a full electrical step.
It comes from Europe and costs $498.00.It is heavy duty and used on
commercial vans.

We used a shortened step from Harbor Freight before we got a Regusa. Easy
to shorten, Easy to leave behind.
