The bolts that hold the black tanksupports – how are they attached at the top? The bolts and nuts are badly rusted and look like they will not take anytorque, and I am sure they will need to be replaced.  I do not need to drop the tank, all I want to do is brace the tank and remove the supportslong enough to straighten them.
Thanks,Jim

The tank is held by a ling fender bolt that comes through the floor.
Might be easier to attach a long bolt to the cross section and extend the
original beam or bolt it to the cross beams.

on my 75 they were a long carriage bolt, that went through the floor. I had to cut my carpet and pull the bolt up through the floor on the inside. the carpet hid the cut, but still the bolt head was under the carpet.

when i re-carpeted, I took the time to install new bolts, so hopefully do not have that problem again.

Jim,

As said, long carriage bolts through the floor. The tank is mounted to the body structure and not the chassis structure.
The body is designed to floats on the chassis with 8 flexible anchor points. You will end up with cracks and leaks, if the tank is mounted in any way to create
stresses to the tank and plumbing.
Get galvanized bolts, or use good paint to coat the bolts.

My tanks are attached with 10, 1/4" self tapping hex screws that have a body/fender washer under the head. Screwed into the Aluminum body bracing. Looks like they were put that way from the factory.

Larry,

Royale by Coachman may be a little different then the GM upfitted. Not too familiar with Coachman design work.
On my coach (Glenbrook) the bolts go through the floor alum members, but the heads are sunk into the top of the floor plywood.

Here is a photo of the carriage bolt and a support stringer on my 73. The head of the bolt is slightly sunk into the floor (no http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/73-painted-desert-230/p50934-00815.html

WR,
i stand corrected.
We have been doing it this way and have lucked out as we support the tank
just enough to keep enough pressure on the mid section of the tank.
I will be doing it correctly to avoid problems.
Thank you for bringing this up.
