Nice coach.
I find it odd that the entrance door is still on the right side. After following Peter's efforts, It was my understanding that a door on the left was required by the Aussie authorities, with a rear door being a tolerable alternative. I guess either I misunderstood, or the requirements vary depending on where the coach is registered in Aussieland.

Rob and Pete,

While I am not planning to move Down Under nor am I looking to spend $100K I was wondering what the conversion to right hand drive is worth? It can't be overly easy to convert.

My second question is about the door. It looks like a really nice kitchen is in the way if it were to be put on the left side. What do your laws say about having to step out into traffic?

It seems to me that if you are selling something in that price range you might do a better job of describing the motorhome. To list things like "Carin DPS navigation system" or "450 HP fullt rebuilt in 2001" for the motor. Are HP ratings different in Australia? Maybe that is how its done in Australia.

If I'm not mistaken, that's a Cinnabar restoration:

Rob,
Not my find it was actually Gail Bennett that posted it to me.

Carl,
Good pick up a Cinnabar resto, I was wondering if it had been done in Australia with the upgrades but you have confirmed not so.

Les,
Some of us owners here in Australia were wondering the same thing that there is no entrance door on the left or in the rear. Not allowable in any state in Australia with just the original door unless the vehicle was registered many years ago when the laws did not apply and this one was not. Remains a mystery perhaps that is why the asking price is so high (convincing authorities takes money).

George,
To convert a GMC Motorhome to RHD runs at about A$12,000 and it is not too difficult.
Regarding the door in my case the door on the left side fits between the dining seats where the table is normally situated (the table is now a fold out type attached to the door. The large front window on that side is removed but of course we have the window of the door to let light in and view through. Other owners have opted to put a door in the rear.

It looks like the right hand drive conversion was done later. The cinnabar pics show conventional left hand drive. I'm sure the 240 volt conversion was done in Australia as well.

Les,

Moving the door depends on the state; NSW, Victoria, and South Australia want it moved Queensland doesn't require it Western
Australia let Neville put one in the rear.

The Blue Streak was registered without moving the door as was Peter's GMC which was imported into NSW by a dentist here in Sydney. I
don't know how the PO's got that to happen.

Peter's GMC was the first GMC Helen and I ever saw.

George,

The Blue Streak's PO spent $12,000 to convert it to RHD, including having it certified by an engineer with a degree in Automotive
Engineering and a "Ticket" that allowed him to do so.

When I drove The Blue Streak from Mudgee to Sydney, I stopped on when I got to the freeway west of Sydney, I went to get out on the
traffic side as a semi passed and it nearly sucked me out the door. I screwed a hook and chain to the wall to restrain the door to
stop that from happening again. I open the door until the chain is taught look rearward and if nothings coming open it and get out.

Richard,

Most vehicle engines are rated in Kw and liters per 100 Km. Very confusing to old US hot rodders like me!

How many times have we read ads for GMC's in the USA will all kinds of mistakes or BS in them, what makes you think things would be
different in Australia.

As they say, "you can't fix stupid."

Carl,

Well spotted and you are correct re the RHD conversion, I doubt VERY much it was done by Cinnabar which will become apparent a few
paragraphs down.

Motorhomes are WAY more expensive here in Australia so this price is not out of line for what it is.

All the figures noted below are SWAG or pulled out of the place the where the sun never shines at current http://www.xe.com/
exchange rates.

Now for a few reasons why that GMC is being sold for $145,000 AUD or as Johnny pointed out $104,000 USD Large.

If my memory serves me well I've seen Cinnabar restorations listed on their website for around $85,000 USD. So let's say that's what
the restoration of this vehicle cost (it was probably more).

Shipping The Blue Streak from the USA to Australia cost my PO around $10,000 USD.

That makes the landed cost (vehicle and shipping cost) $95,000 USD or $133,000 AUD.

The importer is up for 10% GST on the landed cost which brings the amount to $146,000 AUD.

Next comes the conversion to RHD and Peter is correct as the PO of The Blue Streak paid $10,000 for that PLUS $2,000 to an engineer
(with a degree in automotive engineering and a "ticket" from the New South Wales Roads and Transport Department) to certify the
conversion. So now we're at $158,000 AUD. If you note in the ad the seller says he's spent $175,000 on it. He notes that it has been
rewired to 240 (RV's in Australia MUST use stranded wire - solid is a no no). I'm a bit confused by the twin A/C's, the ones he has
on the roof are Dometic and they do sell a 240 VAC / 50 HZ model here. It could be that he installed 240VAC units in the 120VAC
shells.

Peter is also correct about the door, in NSW and Victoria it's supposed to get moved, however, it wasn't done on the GMC he
purchased from a dentist here in NSW nor was mine. When I bought mine the PO told me to NEVER let it run out of registration; when I
asked why not he told me that I might have problems when I went to re-register it. I didn't ask what the problems might be.
