Winterizing my coach this year was better than last year since I installed a hot water bypass when I put in the new water heater, but it was still kind of a pain in the ass. Is there a valve I can install before the fresh water pump to make it easy to hook up a bottle of antifreeze there? A quick perusal of the home improvement stores did not turn up anything. The link below is a picture of my current set up.

Thanks for your help!

I'll bet Jim K. has something also. He seems to stock everything else.

Mine came from McMaster-carr.

G'day,

I noticed that after installing this kit it reduced the flow rate of the house water system when the pump is used. It doesn't seem
to affect the flow rate appreciably when you're plugged into city water.

Since this goes between the water tank and the pump there is no way that it could possible affect the flow on the city water.

I have had one in for over 30 years now and have not noticed any reduction in flow from the pump.
Perhaps you have a defective valve with a restriction in it. Since it's a ball valve it is a straight through flow. The inside diameter of the valve is about the same as the tank fittings
So there should be no restrictions.
I would suggest you remove the valve and visually inspect and measure it. You might have a bad one.

Ken,

That's WAY better than the kit as the valve ports are 1/2" pipe the ID of the fittings that would be screwed into that valve would
not restrict the flow as much!

Emery,

As far as reducing the flow through the city water all I can say is DOUH! ;-)

Also I should have noted in my first email that that I have an Avion and it is not plumbed the same as a GMC.

Here's a link to the water supply system schematic:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/aa-miscellaneous-photos/p57067-26-27-avion-water-supply-system.html

The Avion uses 1/2" OD copper tubing throughout, the connections to the dry bath sink are braided SS flex lines and shower are
reduced to 3/8" OD copper tubing. They are hard to see in right side of the photo below, I don't know what that white blotch is.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/under-double-trouble-27s-bathroom-sink/p36568-iota-auto-transfer-panel-c-2fb-panel-blue-sea-fuse-p
anel.html

The connection to the galley sink is also braided SS flex lines.

Here's the water pump setup:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6283-avion-water-pump-installation.html

Here's a photo of the water heater before the bypass kit was installed:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/xantrex-inverter-installation/p56755-xantrex-5-a.html

As you can see the copper tube is 1/2" OD.

I just bought one of the valves that KenB found on eBay and will replace the kit with that next time I'm in the USA.

I had no idea that Avion used 1/2" lines. Most of us have 3/8". I can see where the diverted valve would reduce the flow from those larger lines.

Dan.

Here is what I use. I adaped the fill tube with some copper pipe to keep the tube in the jug. Note the jug lid and angled cut on the end of the tube. Easy Peasy. Make the tube long enough to put to your jug in a convenient spot. This is the Camping World RV fitting thats was mentioned.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6504/DSCF0797.JPG

Here is the Diversion Valve and hook up. With the antifreeze jug in place.
Remove the cap and install the tube fitting.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6504/DSCF0798.JPG

And I use a simple air connection to blow out the system too. Many will tell its not needed but it's too cold here for me to gamble.

We have kits that allow one to bypass the hot water tank.
Pour in the non toxic antifreeze in the tank in correct proportion and hit
all the outlets including the toilet.
Since the antifreeze is colored, it will be evident that it reached the
outlets.
