We have a four-bag system on our coach and I noticed recently that a rubber-covered wire around the centre of two bags is broken. The bags have been on for about six years and are Goodyear 2B8-155s. I have not heard of this problem before. I don't know how long they were broken and if it's a problem or not. Has anyone else had these wires break ???

Al,

My 4-bag's been installed since 1998, possibly as many as 100,000 mile,
with no problem whatsoever. I will check them closely the next time I'm in
the wheel wells though.

Ken,

I should have mentioned that the wire may be covered by the bellows when the coach is on the ground with air in the bags. I only saw it with a jack under it and the wheels off the ground.

Thanks, Al. Does the problem appear on only one bag, all, ...?

Sounds like time to start carrying a spare, huh?

Two of the four have broken wires. I'm enough of a pessimist that I have always carried a spare. I'm trying to find out and then decide if I should change those with broken wires and then they become spares. The local truck shop said yes, but in their application they have higher air pressures and carry heavier loads per bag. Mine could have been broken for years !!!

Can you post a picture of this coated wire.
I have no clue as to where this wire is on the system.

Jim,

Just to be sure you understand: We're discussing Leigh's 4-bag, NOT the
Quad Bag (I think). :-)

Thanks Ken,
We have used Good Year bags at times when Firestone could not supply.
I have several around that they refused to warranty.
Good Year air bags are ant a part of the GoodYear Tire. They ar part of the
Hose group.
Best that we all check the bags where the band is and make sure that it is
not unraveling.

Tks,AL.
I learn lots by listing to people.
Back in the early 80's I learned from the older guys, now I'm 73 so I'm
getting to be one of the older guys.
Having the internet has certainly helped to disseminate lot of information.

Al,

If you have a "photo shrinker" program, use it to shrink them to 800x600
before uploading. If you don't have one, I'm sure someone will suggest
one. I personally use XNView (from XNView.com), but it's unnecessarily
complex for just that task.

While sharing some good time with Edgar Kremer at Rapid City, he told me of a online site called photosize.com that will resize a *.jpg with great ease. It may take a few tries to end up with the overall size you want as it only sizes be height or width, but the quality retention is Great. I have only had occasion to use it a few times, but have been very happy with both the quality (great) and the cost (can you beat Free?).

Or you could use a Mac and resize both dimensions and/or file size using Preview that is built in.

Sorry I could not resist.

Windows Paint has built-in resizing. Dimensionally or by pixel count. Maintain aspect ratio or not. users choice.

G'day,

Download Microsoft Picture Manager:

http://microsoft-office-picture-manager.apponic.com/

It has rudimentary photo editing capabilities:

1) Auto Correct (automatically correct brightness, contrast, and color)
2) Brightness & Contrast (manually correct brightness, contrast, and color)
3) Crop (manually crop blank areas around photos)
4) Rotate & Flip (Rotate 90° right / Rotate 90° left, Rotate by degree / Flip horizontally / Flip vertically)
5) Red Eye Removal
6) Resize (Predefined height and width, Custom height & width, Percentage of original height & Width)
7) Compress (three levels each compressing the photo more: Documents, Web Pages, and Email Messages

Thank you all for the software suggestions. I have reduced the photo size using the Windows program to a point where it is too small and it still can't be uploaded. Can we get back to my question ?? Has anyone else had problems with the Goodyear bags and the wire and its rubber covering breaking. It's the wire and covering that is in the very centre of the bag between the two bellows. Two of the four on our coach have broken and both on the right side.

I guess we should have asked you where you were trying to upload the photos. We assumed you were trying to upload them to the photo site ( http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/ ). But apparently you were trying to upload them to the forum. You can't upload them to the forum because the sysadmin has deliberately set the size limit to be unuseable. You need to upload them to the photo site, and then post the url here in the forum.

Once you create an account and upload a photo or two to the photo site, instructions for imbedding the photo while retaining the url for the mail list subscribers is here:
