Thanks all!

With a replacement coil and module it appears I am on the road again. I decided to replace them both as both appeared to be original parts.

If I have problems again, I will let you know!

Bob

Great News. It never ceases to amaze me how helpful the GMC Community is.
It is great comfort to know that you have all that expertise traveling
along with you.
It really is an organization like none other that I am aware of. Good job,
all who helped, and those that thought they might.

Bob,

Might not be the cause of your problem, but three times a friend's GMC was
left dead due to the cruise control interfering with the ign module. Only
mentioning it because you stated that you were using the cruise control
when it died. He has the aftermarket Rostra cruise control on his coach .

Fay,

That is interesting. Do you know HOW it was interfering with the ignition?

All I know is that there was something in how the cruise control was
connected that was causing the coach to die and the ignition module to go
bad. Think it might have been connected in someway with the tach, but not
sure. Can try and get more info if you wish. Know he was towed at least
three times because of the same problem, before the shop solved it for good.

There is a wire that could be connected to the distributor. My pre-installation research recommended to not connect it when I installed my Rostra. Don't know what it would do if connected incorrectly.

"Installation instruction for connecting the BLUE wire to the Distributor Tach is WRONG for our application & should be disconnected & connected to chassis ground (Duane Simmons)"
