I know you are a man of few words, but I'm not clear on what using the
'tap' means or what to do with it?

Disregard my last comment .
I didn't see this:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6460/start_switch_talk.pdf
at the top.

I thought I was lucky that my mind was the first thing to go... apparently
not, it's my eyesight !

Hey;

Also remember, that the key has to be ON for the engine to start when
using this switch. Also, don't use this as a bump switch when the key is
OFF, as the engine will start and run while the START switch is pressed
(thanks to the design of the starter solenoid). Of course, this is what I
THINK will happen. Then again it might not. Just saying. I gotta have that
Gary Bovee START switch for my buggy...

Not to be a negative nancy,
But please if you're going to do this do the proper wiring. Using a splice connector is a terrible idea and just asking for failures a few years down the line.
Strip the insulation and solder a new wire on if that how you want to do it. Splice connectors like that eventually vibrate through the wire and then you're just making bigger problems than the one you are trying to "cure".

Gary, Check out http://www.delcity.net/store/Engine-Start-Switch/p_798479 for the switch. I use this one in our Vega.

I believe the only motors that will start are the ones with points. There is an extra wire from the starter to the coil '18yel'
This switch comes in handy when working on the motor.

A bump switch. Would be helpfull

I have been chashing a cutout that appears very rarely. The engine just dies and will start again rught away. I just have to get the coach to stop first with no powerbrak and no powersteering. Can be a bit scary. With a manual gearbox she wouldo just bumpstart

Any idears ?

You are correct. The solenoid circuit you are using was put in to jumper around the ignition resistor on points ignitions to aid is starting. The circuit goes away when the starter is not energized.

Another solution is to bypass/replace most of the stock ignition and cab electrical panel with one of these.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/projects/p53463-arc8000-switch-panel-with-power.html

My stock key tumbler ignition stopped working on a trip. Replacing the tumbler alone would not solve my problem. After installing this, I can easily choose which circuits I want to energize and it gives me a theft deterrent as not many thieves will be carrying a battery interrupt switch key. Not to mention that when I park my coach, with the battery interrup off, there is far less chance of current drain. Not for everyone but worked for me.
With all respect
gary
