Hi Everyone,

Trying to get some ideas for TV Mounting...

I want to use at least a 32" TV somewhere in the coach?

Id love to do a flip down ceiling mount, but not sure how I would secure it?

Any ideas are welcome and if you have photos please post away!!

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

I did a flip down ceiling mount, but with a much smaller TV. To secure the mount I installed a plywood board between the ceiling ribs while I had the headliner down. I like the mount, it has never once come down under way and the roads are plenty bumpy here in jersey.

Gee, I wish that I had taken photos. Jeff Sirum installs them in the ceiling, over the Driver's area. He cuts the plastic and mounts a support system against the roof to hold the TV mount. With the very thin TV sets now, he does not appear to lose much head room, if any. It does look nice. I would think that this installation would need a latch to firmly keep the TV folded up while in motion. Just think of the great back-up camera (LOL).
I used a folding mount and a small TV (15") under the kitchen cabinet. Works for the occasional viewing done in the front compartment. It is a swivel mount, so the TV can be trained to your viewing location.
I did mount a bigger TV against the bath wall that is easily visible from the twin beds.

Steve,

I took a different path for watching television in our coach as space is at a premium and I wanted to keep weight down.

First I purchased a small LCD projector. At the time, 3COM was producing this device http://www.projectorcentral.com/3M_streaming_pico_projector_review.htm . This is a rechargeable, wireless capable projector that included a roku stick and, at the time, was quite inexpensive. I am sure there are now better options available.

To display the picture, I purchased two bright white roll-up style window blinds and mounted them in two spots. The first spot was behind the cabinets opposite of the dinette. That way we could sit at the dinette and watch tv or movies with the projector sitting on the table. The second location was across the back above the rear window. This allowed us to stick the projector to the ceiling thanks to the magic of velcro, and project a picture while in bed. When we were finished, the blinds rolled up out of the way and the projector fit, well, just about anywhere as it was so small.

This may not provide the ultimate hi-def picture, but for our needs it was good enough. When I get a chance I will take pictures if anyone is interested.

This mount is for a 19" TV, but with a little tweaking of the dimensions, it would probably work with a larger one:

Must have been!

I don't remember what you used as a screen. Did you just use the window blind over the counter or did you add a screen?

I have to say, for our use, the resolution on that projector is just fine. We haven't tried projecting it onto a big screen outside, but my guess is that it wouldn't be too bright.

If you ever drive your coach out our way, we should have plenty of space for it now!

As I have the "vacuum cleaner" cabinet in my 26' I was thinking of a ceiling slide out mount, it should not take much to make one, a top roller and a vertical bar mounted to the TV, then a lid/cover next to the fridge, just slide it out and push it back in, and it will be hidden when not in use

For Tailgating it would be cool to have an exterior mount for 40"+ plus flat panel......so you can watch UNC get beat before going to watch NC State win (well I can dream can't I?)
Some sort of quick release bracket and an external power and Sat TV connector.......neat if it was the same TV as the one inside but that likely more complication than its worth and a 32 should be big enough for most inside. I like the idea of having it folded up above drivers area......

We mounted out 26” Flat screen off the end of the cabinet also using a swivel mount and our 19” in the back on a swivel mount too.

We looked at a large number of different installations and we found this to be the cleanest. Hated the ones with a TV sets mounted on a box on the engine cover, always had to move something. No muss No Fuss with this layout and you could do either side. A very clean install!

You guys ever wonder why the GMC coach was fitted with all that glass? I
think it was so you could drive through this beautiful country of ours and
see the wonders that are present in natural surroundings and great open
space vistas. That is what I enjoy the most about our coach. We don't even
have a TV in our coach. Never would turn it on if we did have one. Much
less molest our fellow campers with a blatting idiot sports announcer on an
outside noisemaker. My opinion, and yours might differ from mine and you
are welcome to it. Just wear headphones on yours so it doesn't bother
others.

As my wife says:

"we have a motorhome to get away from all the distractions, if I wanted to watch TV, I would have bought you a big screen TV for the house"

Yes, she bought me the GMC as a wedding gift, and if we are camping and Auburn is playing, we will try and watch the game at a bar.

I do have a DirectTV roof mounted dish that was the first thing I removed from it when we brought it home if anyone is interested.

I'm kinda with Jim on this. We have the TV with a DVD player and we use it sparingly. On our recent trip to Utah, I think we turned it on one evening (out of 12) when we were relaxing in the coach at the Salt Lake City KOA. We have a Winegard crank up dish on the roof, but haven't used it in years since most RV parks have cable hook-ups. I also recently removed the batwing antenna and installed a King Jack antenna in it's place. It brings in local channels just fine.

Still, it's nice to have the option of having entertainment if we get stuck in the coach on a rainy day or something. But, We'd MUCH rather be outside hiking, sightseeing, or just enjoying the great outdoors.

I'm with you, Pete, its not always sunshine out there.

The Coachmen folks gave us Birchaven owners a good spot to put a TV - the beverage center. Mine was missing so I constructed my own and made a spot for the 32" TV.

76 Birchaven - "Wicked Mistress" - New engine, trans, alum radiator, brakes, Sully airbags, fuel lines, seats, adult beverage center... those Coachmen guys were really thinking about us second hand owners by including that beverage center... Columbia, SC.

I've got to go with Jim and Carl. The first modification (upgrade?) to our coach was to remove the two TV's. Haven't missed them.
