I have another question. I do not have the dash for my 78 23 footer. I am thinking the resistor wire caught the dash on fire and they removed it. They made an aluminum plate that bolts to the column and has the factory gauges. All the wiring is just resting on the top of the firewall. Has anyone ever made a dash? Maybe out of wood? I called applied and talked to Jim and he said for a used dash would be around 1200.00 in just labor alone.

Frank Jenkins makes a fiberglass replacement for the entire dash unit. Might be difficult to ship.
Then there is always the Mac Dash collection. One can find beautiful stuff on his site.

I just did a Jenkins dash in mine. Looking at Ken's dash there is NO WAY I'd go the same way again. Build your own and you'll be way ahead both money wise and satisfaction wise. Ken's is a piece of art and it just works.
Just my thoughts after doing it.

I just spent 3 weeks and 3600 miles in Ken Henderson's coach and drove about half the time. I can tell you with certainty that his gauge layout is near perfect. Every gauge is visible and readable and the flat dash and slide back center table/console is genius. VERY well though out and implemented! I plan on copying it.

Check my thread (1976 Palm Beach Build) for what I did with mine. Made a walnut dash with a tablet inlaid in it.

Justin,
Great work on the dash! It would really be beneficial to load your picture up on the GMC Photo site. When you have them on a personal site no one can find them and they are not protected from spam.

Dave Kindig from Salt Lake City, kind of funny looking spikey hair and fumanchu beard but talented and very likable, has a TV show “Bitchin’ Rides”. Episode “Clean Up on Aisle ’32” shows the crew building a dash from scratch. They laid up metal strips to act as the skeleton of the basic shape then filled in the holes from behind with cardboard before layering over with fiberglass. The fiberglass shell was then to be covered in leather.

Nice work. And these guys on TV can build a whole car in just half an hour!

My dash was made out of wood about 15 years ago by a Provost shop that
was redoing the interior.
