Bob, our remote gauge works like a champ, and that tank lasts (and lasts and lasts...). Check the condition of the valve and the fill port - both really could use replacing on our coach, but it's taken me a couple years to run the tank from full to half full, so it's gonna be a while! Typically, the valve leaks when you're in the process of opening or closing it, but not once it's fully open or closed. The fill valve doesn't always re-seat properly after filling, but I just keep a pencil handy to give it a poke (freaks out the gas station attendants).

my original palm beach has a fixed tank and the gauge on the wall.
it works very well, has always worked for me.
If you run a furnace at all for any reason for a long period(longer then just a weekend), I would stick with the larger fixed tank.
I would also stick with it, if it is less work to keep it.

Not Royale, but my remote gauge works. For heating, the larger tank is nice - less trips for resupply. The valves are either totally off or totally on, there is no in-between point. If you leave the valve cracked just a little, the propane tank will empty itself. I found that out the inconvenient way.
Looking forward to seeing your work in Dothan. Hope that Winter does not slow your progress too much.

Bob,
The LPG sender on the Coachmen tanks is a standard item that's readily
available 'most anywhere that sells LPG components. When I turned the big
tank longitudinal in the X-Birchaven, it was a simple matter to remove the
fill valve, install a 90* elbow, and reinstall the fill valve. At the
time, I had captain's chairs mounted inboard of the repositioned tank so
that they leaned back over the new enclosure. This, and the two following
photos, show that it hardly interfered with anything despite its size.

I've since replaced those seats with a sofa/bed, necessitating replacement
of the big tank with a 6 g. one -- we don't miss the big one, but neither
cook nor go cold places. :-)
