A couple of years ago I was poking around my brother's barn and found a barely used 2-1/2 ton floor jack. I figured it was probably Chinese junk (it is Chinese, but reasonably robust). He said someone gave it to him because it didn't work. That turned out to be true. A complete fill with the oil that is supposed to stop leaks didn't affect its inability to raise its own saddle, much less me or a vehicle.
A couple of weeks ago the CFO went to her aunt's funeral and to visit her folks for a week and a half. When the cat's away...
I took the jack apart in her carport, because she wasn't around to catch me, so the new oil spot must have been there before she left...
It needed a main seal. The old one had hardened and just crumbled when I touched it.
$29.95 plus $5 shipping and a new seal kit arrived 5 days later. Then life got in the way and I didn't get around to putting it back together until today.
It works! Now I have two floor jacks, and the "new" one has about 500 pounds of excess capacity to lift the front end of the GMC, instead of just barely rated to do the job.
