I'm looking at a GMC Motorhome to purchase in the Eugene, Oregon area that needs an engine rebuild.

If we buy it, I expect to transport it to a service shop that would remove and reinstall the engine and then have a rebuilder go over the engine and rebuild it. I spoke with Applied GMC and they said that they no longer provide rebuilt engines, but will install one that I have had rebuilt; they then put the engine on a test stand and run it to make sure that it survives its infancy. They can recommend a local (to San Jose) rebuilder whose engines have performed well.

That sounds like the right process, but I'm looking for a hauler, service shop (that has an engine stand), and rebuilder near Eugene. (I realize that Portland may be the closest place I could expect to find them, and since we live near Seattle that may be an option.

Any suggestions?

Someone in Portland last year was trying to find a person to replace the engine in a GMC, and I am not sure if he found anybody willing to do it.

Jim Hupy would be the person I would at least talk to, he does the work, if he has the time I believe, last summer he was vacationing, but he might be home now.

I would talk to him, and he should be able to steer you in the right direction, or try:

his info can be found on blacklist:

Some folks have been having good luck with engines rebuilt by S&J Engines
out of Spokane, WA (https://www.sandjengines.com/). Or, MannyT is doing
diesel engines in San Jose, CA.

Thanks, all.
I spoke to S&J, and they quoted:
Engine: $2036.00
Core: $500.00
RV Cam: $75.00
Roller Ch:$65.00
Shipping: $95.00 each way.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. No engine stand run-in.

hear about your engine. I have installed several engines from S and J. They
do excellent work. Good call. They can have an engine on my shop floor
usually in 2 working days. If you want to talk to me about this, my number
is 503 9three one 49eightyeight.

Gene, the surgeon told me that "Yes, there is a problem, for now, he says
we are going to observe carefully and if there are negative changes, that I
will need to have an aortic valve replaced. Otherwise, continue present
program. About all any of us can expect. (grin). Thanks for your concerns.
