Does Quaker State Defy have all the stuff in it that we need for our

This was on the Corvette forum:

Quaker State 10W30 Defy, API SL synthetic blend (lab tested 2012)
NOTE: An API SL rating is for 2004 and older automotive engines. This rating was replaced by the API SM rating at the end of November 2004, when the 2005 models were already available.

Silicon = 3 ppm (anti-foaming agent in new oil, but in used oil, certain gasket materials and dirt can also add to this number)
Boron = 170 ppm (detergent/dispersant, anti-deposit buildup/anti-sludge)
Magnesium = 8 ppm (detergent/dispersant, anti-deposit buildup/anti-sludge)
Calcium = 2652 ppm (detergent/dispersant, anti-deposit buildup/anti-sludge)
Barium = 0 ppm (detergent/dispersant, anti-deposit buildup/anti-sludge)
Total detergent/dispersant (anti-deposit buildup/anti-sludge) = 2830 ppm
Zinc = 1221 ppm (anti-wear)
Phos = 955 ppm (anti-wear)
Moly = 99 ppm (anti-wear)
Total anti-wear = 2275 ppm
Potassium = 4 ppm (anti-freeze corrosion inhibitor)
Sodium = 0 ppm (anti-freeze corrosion inhibitor)
TBN = 6.5 (Total Base Number is an acid neutralizer to prevent corrosion. Most gasoline engine motor oils start with TBN around 8 or 9. And in use, this becomes depleted over time as mileage accumulates)
Viscosity (cSt at 100*C) = 11.7 (cSt range for SAE 30 is 9.3 to 12.4) And cSt (centistokes) in general terms, represents an oil's thickness

Bill,

Thanks!

I'm not a fan of synthetic oil for the 403 or 455 Olds engines
I prefer 15W-40 for our 403 or 455 Olds engines
Zinc, Phos, and Moly levels look OK to me

Yeah but if the current batch of oil is SN rated the zink and phos may be less then the SL rating

Thanks, Bill, I googled for over an hour, and didn't find that.
Looks good to use in our coaches. Easy to find on the shelf, too, if
it's there. Bright Red.

Looks like old data to me. I prefer Dino or Syn and don't like the blends.

I scrolled to the bottom line: For others, like me, that have the attention span of a chicken, the author is sold on Rotella T6 for Jeep Cherokees.

Shell also makes a synthetic Rotella. For some time, it was only available at WalMart, though now I see it at Advance as well.

No club. It would be a good read for those that have never researched oil/additives before. I wasn't seeing anything I hadn't read before, so I skipped to the bottom line.

Yes bottom line, the author is sold on Rotella T6 for pre-catalytic converter designed engines.
He iterates engine design and not year of vehicle since the Jeep inline 6 design did not change much over the years.

I was at Napa yesterday, they sell the T6 for $20.99 a gallon, plus they are having their 20% off bucket sale.
Making it $16.72 a gallon if you put it in the $3 bucket, who doesn't need another bucket?

And Shell has a $5 rebate per gallon...

$11.72 a gallon after rebate Smile

Wish I had waited to buy it.

Owned a few jeep 6 cylinders. and I abused one cherokee for over 100k miles. That engine does not care what oil is in it, or how often you change the oil, so I am not sure i can go off a jeep cherokee forum as to what is the best oil.

I agree. I have 220,000 on my XJ with no symptoms of wear or oil consumption using 10w-30 Dino oil at about 3500 mile intervals. That said I think T6 is good stuff and run that in the 455.

I'll pile on and add that my 230,000 mile XJ runs like a top, though I've been running Mobil 1 in it since 121,000 miles when I bought it. I think it would hold together if I was running olive oil in it though... that's one tough motor!
