In a previous post I asked for advice on a fuel gauge pinned at full. Today I finally got around to taking off the dash and having a look. While generally this is a sender problem, the gauge went to empty when the I switched tanks to reserve. The gauge also worked last year.

When I got back there I found a wiring harness terminated and duck taped. When I pulled off the tape, there was a diode or resistor crudely jammed between the two jacks. One end of the harness lead the the fuel gauge the other into the bowels of the dash. Both wire are brown. After fiddling with it, my gauge seemed to unpin but its hard to know for sure or for how long that will last. Anyone run into this little mod before?

Here are some pictures.
