I'm looking for suggestions and "this is what I did"
I'm using the stock seat bases with Olds Silhouette seats.
I'm putting down Dynamat.
So, seat bases on the carpet, or carpet around the bases?
Did you glue the carpet to the Dynamat?
Thank you for the input and for sharing!

No dynamat experience. I have a 75, and i mounted seatbases diect to plywood and cut out where carpet is. I used thick rubber carpet pad so needed to have seat bases diect to plywood. Issue also was how to cover up ugly bolts that hold seat base down.
I had some strips of carpet bound to cover sides of seat bases.

Around the bases.
No glue on the dynamat. A screw here and there in inconspicuous places will
hold it.

I did not use dynamat, but when I redid the carpet, I laid it all out and put the bases on top. The PO had some kind of funky carpet on the bases with industrial glue. Took 2 days to remove it all. Once done, I sprayed both bases with about 5 coats of paint in the same family of colors as the carpet. I also installed new nuts and bolts, and sprayed the bolt heads too. I did not want to tackle cutting and gluing carpet back on the bases.
I put a few staples in the carpet pad, and then a few select staples in the carpet at the ends to hold it down. Nothing to it. The bases sitting on the carpet are nice anchor points as well. I used an awl to locate the first few holes in the floor, then put some bolts in there to hold it. Then carefully drilled through the carpet for the remaining bolts. The only trick is to not snug down the first few bolts until you get them all in and the nuts seated. Snugging down the first one or two will raise the base enough that you wont be able to start the other bolts. Yes you can use longer bolts, but I went with the same sizes as the ones coming out.

PO had the carpet redone in mine, by Sirum I believe. It's a separate piece on the hatch and step wall behind the hatch. Glued to the hatch except the last few inches so the latches are accessible. Velcro-ed to the back edge of the hatch and the vertical step wall.

I used dynamat, then carpet pad, then carpet. I was going for as much sound deadening as I could and seemed to have worked. I put the seat basses over the carpet then located the bolt holes and ran a heated rod through the carpet to prevent unraveling. I stapled the carpet along the edges and it turned out pretty nice, although I might redo the engine cover in the future.

The heated rod is brilliant.
Much better than my paper drill.

I used an electric soldering iron to poke a hole in my cockpit carpet to
mount the seat bases.
