A new Remflex gasket and a little elbow grease and the coach sounds like a luxury hot rod. Wait, it IS a luxury hot rod!

I can see where the PO (or one of his minions) tried to fix the leak with some sealant... talk about a low probability of success...

Pffft! Who says vice grips don't make good exhaust repairs? I had over 30,000 miles on this one I did on my old Accord and sold it that way.

Back story: I went to replace the rear muffler that comes with flanged inlet you see here. The existing exhaust leading up to this pipe flange had welded in studs, which both promptly broke off despite my best attempts to juice them up leaving only partial studs behind that now function as pilots. The side opposite the vice grip was plenty tight due to a slight angular misalignment between the two flanges. Notice the carefully crafted patina. See, Harbor Freight DOES sell quality tools!

Does anyone think the exhaust gasses escaping from the middle ports could have caused vapor lock (or something like it?). I went for a couple years without any vapor lock at all, other than one time in stop-and-go traffic at 115 degrees, and then switching on my auxillary fuel pump cleared it up instantly. But I've had an issue where if I have been running down the road at highway speeds, and come to an idle for a couple minutes (which happens regularly at the border patrol stops in Arizona), I get what feels like vapor lock when trying to get back up to speed, at which point everything's fine again. This didn't happen before the exhaust leak developed, so I'm wondering if it's possible that I was just heating my Holley carb a bit more than normal with the leaking exhaust gas.

Definitely would have contributed more heat to the engine room. Everything would get warmer, not just the carb. The fuel pump and fuel lines could also face extra heat if the right side exhaust leaks...

Well no Jim, I just took the screw outta the hole and wrapped it with lime green duct tape and screwed it back in Laughing

A similar procedure for that pinhole in the radiator hose: Cover the threads of a sheet metal screw with RTV, screw it into the hole, and wrap the hose with duct tape! Gotta use the good tape, not that paper-thin stuff they sell in the dollar store Smile

Yes, I actually DID do that. It was at the sand dunes, on an ATV (actually a Honda Odyssey) and we didn't have much choice. It got us through the rest of the weekend. Smile Smile Rolling Eyes

I'm convinced that vapor lock issues are due more to high engine compartment temps than anything further back such as fuel line and tank temperatures. I normally have no or very slight vapor lock issues. When my fan clutch started acting up, my engine ran warmer than usual but not hot. I had serious vapor lock problems that almost kept me from getting home. When I replaced my fan clutch, all the vapor lock issues went away--even the slight problems I had at altitude in 110F temperatures.
