Greetings!

I would like to empty the LP tank on my newly acquired coach, but both the tank and monitor panel gauges read 'Full'. Rather than burn 62 lbs of propane through the original (and questionable) coach system, is there someplace that will offload propane from an RV? I've inquired with Amerigas and several RV repair shops in my area, but no luck. Any advice for this beginner?

I vented mine.

Half tank took about 15 minutes without the regulator.

In the tank, propane is a liquid.
With the proper hose it can be transferred to another tank.

I dumped two tanks to the atmosphere trying to fix a leak, probably as much or more before I realized there was a leak.
crack the valve, leave the doors open, come back a few hours later.

Paul,

This is something I have actually done (albeit many years ago).

You need:
2ea - CGA 350 (IIMC) the fitting often called a POL
A length of porpane capable hose and fitting to attach both CGS350s.
A tub with cold water or ice
About four or five nearly empty barbeque (20#) cans.

How (aka Procedure)
Put as many of the empties in the cold water as you can. Letting them cool won't hurt.
Attach the hose to your tank.
Crack the valve on your tank to blow the air out of the line.
Attach the other end of the line to an empty.
Open its valve. Gas will flow to the colder thank. The little can won't over fill unless it is so old it does not have an OFPD that prevents over filling.
The big tank will get cold and slow the operation.
Expect it to take quite a while.

Good Luck

Matt - Still on I-76

Matt,

I assume that method works because the rv tank draws liquid out and the colder tank has less propane gas pressure in it? Once the tank temps are equal so is the pressure and flow will stop.

Are any of these systems vapor draw?

Where the supply tank draws from does not decide whether the operation works. What drives the transfer operation that Matt described is the temperature differential between the 2 tanks. The refrigerant vapor pressure will drop when it gets cold, so when you ice down the barbecue tank and have the GMC tank in the bright sun (or use a no-combustion heater on it), the refrigerant will migrate to the colder tank. If the supply tank can be turned upside down, or has a dip tube to draw liquid, that will speed the operation up considerably.
