Scott, We have a 73 and the dash air does not work. I've been putting off the issue. What all did yours need. I have read about the compressor issue but that's all. Any idea of cost or tips would be great.

Thanks,
PA

PA,

Don't be sure it is the pump until you try to turn it. A6s are hard to kill and the parts that do fail are easily replaced.
Even the 73 cab air can be made to work and for Ohio, it should adequate.

I suggest that you go into the control panel and build a real sigfile.
It should have, Your real name (so we know who you are when we meet.)
Coach with year model (more than 73) and important mods.
A geolocation (N OH is too big) so others that might help will know if you are in striking range. i.e. I might come by to assist you if you are in Toledo, but Ashtabula - Not likely.

Matt - Still going West

"does not work" is not enough information to help us get you started. What are your symptoms?

The one in my 73 Sequoia "did not work" according to two previous owners. When I looked into it, the wire from the blower relay to the blower had a corroded connection at the relay. No fan on any speed. I soldered the connector back to the wire and cleaned up the connection between the relay and the connector on the wire and my dash AC worked.

The fuse on yours might be blown, or there might be corrosion between the fuse and the fuse block.

Yours might need refrigerant. The compressor won't come on unless there is a certain pressure of refrigerant in the system.

These things will cool if the compressor is compressing and there is enough refrigerant in the system and electricity gets everywhere it needs to get. It is not hard for even a novice to figure out what is not working.

Find the troubleshooting procedure for the dash AC in your owners manual and work through it. It will lead you to the problem.

I'm with you on the envy Scott. My wife had a trip to Utah all planned out for this Fall, so we aren't going to make either of the big rallies. Oh well, probably all for the better anyway, we tend to have a really great time traveling in the GMC on our own too.

We'll be heading out Monday after work toward Navajo Nat. Park, then on to Moab Utah for a few days, then on to Logan UT for a few more days, then back to Salt Lake City, and on home via Las Vegas for an almost two week, 1800+ mile trip. Should be a blast!

I'm sure looking forward to some photos from these two major rallies though. One of the main sources for Rally/Convention photos is no longer with us (the dearly departed Dan Gregg, oh how we miss him) so someone else will have to step up.

We have someone else who has been doing a great job on photos. Glenn Gardner, a relatively new member of GMCMI, has been coming to the conventions and has taken great photos They are posted on the GMCMI.com site.

Here is an email that Glenn posted in April last year:

Fellow GMCers,

Not sure where to start with this story, but here it goes.

With no intension of ever owning a motorhome, Elaine & I ran across our 1976 GMC, two years ago, April 2012.
Fate put HER in our path, and we just had to have it.
We had no idea of the wonderful people and things it would take us to.

Last year, we attended our first GMC rally.
Had a lot of fun, met a lot of people, and figured we should do it again this year.
These amazing people ranged from age 60 to 90, and professions from NASA engineers to a Poolguy (me)

This year it was in Montgomery, Texas (about an hour north of Houston)
We decided to take the backroads in hopes to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
As it turned out, I officially did a total of 2623 miles (a bit less than estimated, Yahoo!) and burned 307 gallons of fuel.

Elaine & I were able to reacquaint with people we met last year, and made a lot of new friends this year.
The two weeks of our adventure was a blur.
I talked to every person that I could, and had so many wonderful conversations, from different points of view.

After a short while, it all seemed to blend into one long wonderful day.
And just so I would remember it all, I had to take a few photos.
Good thing I did, because I was able to relive my memories by viewing them.

I hope that those of you that view this gallery of photos, that it may bring back some good memories, and for those of you that were unable to make it, I hope you will enjoy some of the sights too.
They are all free to download, just follow the directions on the gallery.

Here is the link: http://www.g2photosmx.com/Events/GMCMI-Fall-Rally-2014/38195743_KgpNjv

Thank you to all that made us feel as part of the GMC family.
It has been a privilege for us both.

Sincerely,
Glenn & Elaine..."Scooby Doo"

Glenn Gardner...http://www.g2photosmx.com/ :)

That's right, Emery ,thanks for reminding me about Glenn and his photos. IIRC, he's a professional photographer who volunteered his services. Will he be at Rapid City?

Glenn & Elaine,
Good to have you guys as the official photographers! Now if we could just get you both to move out here to Texas. We need more GMC'ers because our Margaritas are too big, and we hate to waste! But you will also have to bring Jim Bounds and his crew with you. Preferably within 200 miles of my house(that's my AAA towing limit!!). Scott
