Posted about an hour ago by a 25 year old new owner trying to learn his way
around: Can anyone tell me what this is? It clicks when I push it in.

Hey Billy,

I remember back when those folks in Detroit moved that switch
up on the steering column.

My problem was I wasn't agile enough to be able to operate the
switch with my left foot, I kept getting all of this oncoming
traffic flashing their lights. lol

Reminds me of when I was riding with a FHP trooper one night in the late 70s and an oncoming car wouldn't dim her lights and of course he had to oblige her and find out her problem. I remember she said she would have been happy to if he would tell her how, it was her daughters car and she had no ideal where the new fantangled light dimmer switch was.

When I visited my old hometown in PA for the first time in about 25 years (a while back) my uncle came to pick me up at the airport. He was a bit advanced in years and had a friend drive him down to Baltimore to get me. His friend told me the PA DOT was requiring the auto dealers to recall new cars and retrofit the dimmer switch back to the floor. The reason??? The blondes were getting their feet tangled up in the steering wheel. Rolling Eyes

I noted when someone said the new steering columns could be set up to dim the GMC headlights, I wil;l give up the dimmer switch when they pry it from my cold dead toes. I bought a '68 Datsun wagon which had the first column dimmer I ever saw. And disliked intensely (the dimmer, not the car)

A little factoid on that switch. Peter Framton invented/used an effect pedal on the Frampton comes alive album called a talk box. His on/off foot switch was whatever that thing in that picture was. BTW, how did they even find that whatever it is thing under all that groovy shag carpeting!!!
