I sorted an A/C compressor in the Men's Mall this week. From a Volvo, R12 type. What can I do to see if it is any good, before I install it. Was hoping that I could spin it with an eletric drill and get compressed air out of it.
Any easy way to check oil level?
It is a Denso axial flow design. Smaller than a A6, bigger than a Sanden.

Tom,
If the hope had been to use it as an air compressor, it will do that BUT.....
Refrigeration compressors are designed to pull lube oil into the working fluid stream.
And, then there is the horsepower requirement. To get any meaningful amount of air out at any pressure at all, will probably require more than what most drill motors can do.
The only little compressor I know that has an external oil level check are the GM-A6 and the York/Tecumseh A series.
So, if you only need a little air and oil isn't an issue, you're good.
