I've seen this coach. He brought it to a Saguaro Jetset rally one time. VERY nice.

Note the receipt total.

Owning a GMC is no get rich quick scheme...at his asking price he's taking a bath - Forget what he actually gets (though I wish him the best).

It sure looks like it is worth every penny.

OK, he may be optimistic, I don't know. The pictures look legit. It certainly looks as new as anything out there, and it is half the price of anything that would come close.

With the new "tiny house craze" and the surging RV lifestyle craze, prices should be on the rise for a well done unit. I think they have been artificially low in the past few years for some of the better coaches.

Again amount spent does not affect resale unless the coach looks it. I have seen many for sale that the owners spent huge amounts on 20 years ago, but then proceeded to wear out the coach back down to a $2500 special.

I see no indication of that either on ebay or cl. Facebook offerings, if anything, are even lower.

There a lot of very nice newer sob coaches out there for about half that price. A person has to have a lot of EXTRA cash to consider a purchase like that.

I say that as I am sitting in the Palm Beach in a parking lot in Grants's Pass, Ore with yet another failed transmission. A long way from home and farther still from Manny's in San Jose.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. I may be getting to old for this.

I'll be candid. From what I'm seeing overall, the market with the best valu now is $7500. Once a coach's pricing goes into the teen$, it's dead in the water. We've enter the Burning Man era.

Another issue is that 'rebuilt to new' even just 7 or 8 years ago may not be the latest-and-greatest.

Guilty, as charged. I dream of one day driving the Wicked Mistress to a destination farther than 5 blocks and returning home a couple of days later under its own power....heh.

Note I said should be on the rise. The real obstacle to higher sale prices is financing. You can get that new stick and staple wonder financed.

I am a classic example that you can dump a lot of money in these things and still not have a reliable or particularly attractive coach. But, I do not approach the coach as an investment either. I plan on getting my money's worth of enjoyment out of the coach before I have to part with it - even if it ends up being in the driveway... Very Happy If someone wants to pay me to take it away after that, it is a bonus.

There are a lot of coaches on the market, but very few that show like a new coach. By new coach I mean one that does not have dated color combinations. When is the last time you saw anything new with mauve or mallard green themed interiors? I see a lot of wonderful coaches on the market with Good modern paint schemes, modern color coordinated interiors, and fresh well done mechanicals, but very few with all three at once. Just saying.

From a ready what we call "a driver" in the car forums, sure. For a well done example, it is whatever amount will pry it out of the owner's hands. As a buyer on a budget, there are a lot of good deals out there. Not very many would I expect to make it across country without a cash infusion of some sort. In a former life, the average used car needed about $2000 worth of work. That was the number at which most folks threw in the towel and traded. Can't think it is any cheaper for a motorhome, heck a set of tires gets you halfway there.

This is my point. There is a reason new cars depreciate so fast. New is new. New 7 years ago is used - sometimes very well used.

G'day,

I've read all the comments regarding this particular GMC and I agree that the asking price is VERY HIGH. However, has anyone that
has commented actually gone to look at it?

Seventy nine grand is VERY high but it just might be a turn key coach that one could get in and use for years and only do routine
maintenance. That might make it worth that much to someone.

Come to think of it here's another question, has anyone done a line by line comparison of what has been done to this GMC as compared
to other coaches.

I have seen Fred and Sharon Hudspeth's Cinnabar restored GMC and the workmanship is very good. IIRC he has noted that he has had
very few problems with it since it has been done.

Steve was a member of the GMC Saguaro Jetset for a year, a few years back. As far as I know, he only attended one of our rallies. The coach is a showpiece. I was especially impressed with the Edelbrock heads on the Mondello 455. The Cinnabar workmanship was excellent as well. I have no doubt the coach is worth every penny of his asking price. But, as we all know, these coaches are a very bad monetary investment. None of us will ever get our investment back out of them, in money at least.

To me, it makes sense to build your coach to the level that you are comfortable with, and that you can afford. Don't expect to make any money on it though. The rewards are NOT monetary. AS a former member used to say; GMC = Great Memories Created. That's where the value is in these coaches.

Hopefully Steve will get what he wants for it. It will be good for all of us.

There are more and more of these really nice GMCs going overseas. I know of
several that have relocated to Kuwait, Dubai, and all points in between.

I'm going to go back to my admittedly rude remark a month ago but here is how many of you like to play both sides of this argument. This appears to be a beautiful coach that most think is way overpriced, but at the same time many of you have your coach insured for $50K when many campgrounds would never even let you drive by.

I don't know. I see high dollar toy haulers, diesel pushers, and 4x4 leather wrapped trucks towing big gobs of depreciation down the freeway regularly. It's a lot MORE money than we're used to, but not a lot of money to some.

Perhaps this is a thrifty lot of folks.

Just sayin - if I were one of the spendy folks (who actually had $$ to spend) I might be interested in that coach.

Without a doubt. That is probably the only reason a lot of these coaches are still around. But let's not hate on the guy who reaches a little higher to push the pricing envelope.

Watched a Meecum auction last night where a guy who paid 2800 for a yenko chevelle 40 years ago and turned down a cash buyer at $220,000 - reserve was $280,000.

I once had a guy knock on the door because he wanted to buy one of my vw busses. I thanked him but declined the offer. My wife calls it the day two fools met...
