I'm ordering parts for another vehicle and can get the left wiper arm for the 1993 Lumina APV from Dorman for the price of a discount code. I need 2 LEFT arms to fit the GMC, right? That's what I seem to read on the forum...anybody have the quick answer?

Not exactly sure the year models but there are 2 designs the same dimensions and both work. One has rounded edges and the second are flatter with sparper edges. Wouldn't know unless you get one of each at the mall.. Confused

Well, I don't get to go to the mall on this one because of the price(free), and no local donors, so have to get it unseen except for a photo. But it will be brand-new. Is there something else to this mod that I have to get from a donor? Looked like (from photosite) that I have to get the end of the wiper transmission shaft and cut it down and drill it out and press it into the Lumina wiper arm...is that correct? I may end up coming up with my own solution since the donor vans are not in my local boneyards.

I use the GMC tapered spline. I have used a varibit and tapered bits both work. Don't go too deep or you will have to add washers under the bolts. I like the tall factory GMC wiper bolts. It will pull tight enough to set splines, shorter will strip. It probably be best to start on the coach to level the wipers where you want then put in vise with paint paddles and set. You can find covers at truck chrome shops for the nuts with washer.

You drill out the Lumina arms and press in the GMC spline. It they don't stay on the tranny when you remove them, they will knock out of the stock arms.

OK, well I won't be taking mine off until the new one gets here to check the shapes and different parts. I have the step and cone bits and any number of tools to make holes bigger...making them smaller is still quite a challenge sometimes, especially when it comes to aluminum and pot metal. Thanks for the info on the procedure.

Thanks to all that responded, I'll provide the brews next time we meet Cool I shouldn't have a problem with this conversion, I even have the exact bit that Kelvin is using in the pics that Gene linked to on the photo site. I also have enough tie straps and duct tape to surmount most unforeseen difficulties in GMC land Laughing
