Within another thread is a good discussion of air compressors. I’d like the bring the discussion into its own thread.
I feel as if I ought to rebuild or replace mine, but the want to replace is more emotional than rational!
In my 1976 Palm Beach the original (I think) compressor is in the bottom cabined in the hallway. It’s a racket when pumping up, and some where close to the compressor is a leak which causes it to cycle on / off every few minutes. The bags never seem to loose air, so I’m sure it’s close to the compressor but I haven’t given the Rube-Goldberg contraption any attention to figure it out. Also, I feel as if it takes the bags a long time to pump up. How long does it take most of y’all to inflate an airbag? I have the dual airbags, but still it’s probably close to the same volume of air for the original, Sully bags, and exactly the same as the quadra-bag.
Anyone have thoughts about compressors? Some in the other thread like the Viair’s - I wonder if they are quieter? I couldn’t imagine inflating a tire with that little thing, but I suppose it’s possible.

My new viair is a lot quieter as the wornout original. Wouls a rebuild oem be as quiet ?
It does take a while for the bags to i flate completely
My first new viair lasted only a couple of months before both checkvalves gave up, mabey becourse the airfilter had gone loose ? Seccond new viair is noe running a year without problems.
Iff I still had the oem I would rebuild it.

The total volume of air required to maintain the air suspension in very small. My OEM compressor kicks on once or twice a day while driving for 8 or 10 hours. Parked it never kicks on. If the compressor it is able to pump up to the cut off pressure which is around 120 or 125 in reasonable time, then I would not blame the compressor.
If the air bags are not leaking down then I would look for a leak between the air compressor, the switch, and the reserve air tank. Mine also has a check valve in line between the compressor and the tank. I think they all have one. It got old and dirty. It would not seal tightly so the tank pressure slowly leaked back in to the compressor when it was not operating. I only mention this in case you can not find the leak elsewhere in the cabinet.
One other hint, the air line fittings used by GM were plastic and deteriorate over time. If you find a leak replace the fitting with a brass one. Parker and other companies make replacements. I went through my coach years ago and just replaced all of them.

Larry,
You have not advised what system you have but I suspect it to be the Electrolevel I as the compressor is located in the hallway. If
the bags don't leak down then there is a leak somewhere in all the Electrolevel I claptrap.
I like the PowerLevel in the Avion. I replaced all the lines, fittings, and installed a Viair 480C (largest capacity 100% duty cycle
pump they make). When I got done with the replacement I did a test. Starting with 0 psi in the tank and 0 psi in the OEM air bags; I
set both control valves to TRAVEL and then started the engine. It took 2 and a half minutes to get the coach to ride height and fill
the tank, to 140 psi then the Viair compressor shut down.
