Yeah, and in the general election, in swing states, I can imagine the
weather man adding a forecast as to how many inches of campaign junk mail
people can expect in the mail over the next few days.

The few years I lived in West Palm Beach / Boca Raton FL areas were quite a shock for this New Jersey native. The constant road closures during campaign season and the never ending poll calls, doorbell knockers, voter registration drives, were unbelievable. Now that I live in AL I don't have to worry about any of it. There is simply no point in anyone campaigning here. The primary isn't at an impactful time and, let's face it, when it comes time for the general election this state is not contested. Peace and quiet, but it comes with the side effect of absolute irrelevance.

Makes me nostalgic about UK elections and politicians.....far less corruption, almost no TV ads and over and done in about 6 weeks. Yes they still elect the
odd nut or two but they tend to be the nice british eccentric sort of nut

When you have the world's oldest written still in use Constitution you can get some oddball practices. Our two party system, and absolutely ludicrous presidential campaigns, are the direct result of the electoral college, a practice designed to protect government from an illiterate, uneducated, uninformed, disparate, agrarian 18th century society with no idea of what is happening in the next county, let alone across the globe. There is a lot to like in our Constitution, even 225+ years after it was enacted, but the electoral college is an anachronism that has created some truly troubling problems.
Sadly it is in both parties best interests to keep the electoral college, so we are stuck with it as we are stuck with them.

The United Kingdom doesn't actually have a written constitution:

Their 'constitution' is made up of 'common law'

A virtue to California, we are virtually irrelevant to the presidential
election process, just low key fundraising activity.
