My father bought a 26' 1976 GMC about 7 years ago (this is a guess) from
the wife of his long time friend Bill Shumway, some of you California folk
may remember him. About two years ago both my father and I developed health
issues and the rig has been sitting. I am completely recovered but I know
NOTHING about cars. I do know that I love the GMC and would like to get it
running and hold on to it. My health issues are completely resolved but my
father has rapidly progressing dementia, so I am on my own. I travel
frequently to horse, dog and cat shows, not long distances, and I would
love to be able to use the RV for at least some of these trips.
Right now, I just want to get it started! I need someone who is willing to
answer basic questions and point me in the right direction. I know this rig
is unique in a lot of ways and there are things that only GMC owners will
be able to answer. I will, of course, need to find someone to work on it,
so if you know of anyone in Washington state that would be reliable that
would be a great help. I have a 23 yo nephew who likes to work on cars but
when he looks at the GMC he is definitely at a loss and I think it would
probably be a pretty steep learning curve for someone so young lol. I
realize this will not be cheap and if there are significant problems, I
might not be able to pull it off, but I would at least like to find out
what it needs and go from there. Does anybody out there have any helpful
advice for me?
Thanks for reading!
