G'day,

First of all I would like to thank everyone for their support, Helen and I appreciate it greatly.

The radiation therapy to the spine seems to have worked but she's experiencing funny sensations in her right leg along with muscle
cramps. The radiation oncologist suspected it might have been a blood clot and ordered an ultrasound which showed it was not. She's
going to schedule another appointment with him next week so we can to the bottom of the problem.

She had chemotherapy sessions on the two past Mondays and so far she has not had any negative reactions. The oncologist noted that
some people seem to tolerate it better than others and don't have a lot of side effects. She gets this Monday off and then it's two
on one off followed by two more on. That brings us to September 21st. They will then wait a bit and do some more scans to see how
the cancer is reacting to the chemo.

They're getting her pain management under control and she's been able to get more sleep which is a blessing as it helps her manage
the pain better.

Unfortunately she has very little appetite and is loosing weight, I'm trying to get her to eat more, unfortunately she isn't into hi
calorie count foods.

On the good news front, Helen's friends are showering her with attention by dropping by and visiting with her, which she really
enjoys!

When Helen graduated from university she was a school librarian. Last night she went to a reunion of the students from the first
school she was assigned to and she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

All in all she is bearing up under this very well and is maintaining a good spirit.

Regards,
Rob M.

PS - I have received a LOT of OFF NET emails and I will respond to them individually but it will take awhile.

Rob,

If the Chemo starts to cause hair loss, get her a wig before she notices.
That does a lot for ones self image. She may need all she can get.
Give her a gentle hug.

Matt

Matt,

Agreed!

You must be clairvoyant!

I get LOTS of requests; "give me a little hug."

Which I provide happily!

Thanks for the update, we wish for the best for you and Helen.

I have had leg cramps all my life at night. After a series of "It ain't that" tests, I figured if my legs are in a cool draft, I get cramps. For the last 20 years or so I sleep with a blanket across them and have no problems unless I kick it off. It's worth a try.

Thanks for the news on Helen.
Wow she can eat some things I would love but I cannot take the sweet things.
Best for me oatmeal with some fruit.Toast with little cinnamon honeyGrilled cheese sandwichesSteak   baked potatoesChickenNoodles in an olive oil with spinach and snow peas and bits of chicken.
My taste buds are off   nothing spicy.
Had my 2 chemo a week and half ago. A bit more nausea the first week and right now is a lot of rest.  On Friday I went out to help guide my son in law who was taking my gmc coach off the Ramp. They took it for the long weekend and brought it back today.  Sure glad it is getting use until I am back in the saddle.
Tomorrow in check in ER to have blood work and have my stomach drained. Last drain was 10 days ago and drained 7.5 litres.  This will be my 8th drain. My 3rd chemo is scheduled for a week after this friday.
Upper body very thin while the lower is still blotted but slowly I see going down.
I definitely need to put see fat on.
Will stay in touch.
Continue to pray for you both.Grace and PeaceDwayne  Jacobson 77 Kingsley White Rock B C

Subject: [GMCnet] Update on Helen

G'day,

Thought I'd update everybody on Helen's status as of today.

She completed a course of Radiation therapy on her spine (T-5 & T-6) which stopped the pain she was having there.

She has completed two rounds (out of four) of Chemotherapy; she has two more to go which will finish on October 12th.

We went to see the Radiation therapy Oncologist this past Monday because she was having pain in the lower left side of her back and
left leg. She went for a scan on Tuesday and he has scheduled her for an additional 10 sessions of Radiation therapy starting next
Wednesday.

We saw the Chemotherapy Oncologist on Tuesday and she advised that follow up scans will be performed a week or so after she finishes
the Chemotherapy to see what the effect has been.

So far she has not had any loss of hair and while she feels weak she is doing OK.

She is loosing weight as she has lost her appetite and I am doing my level best to entice her with "goodies" that she likes such as
roasted cashews and macadamia nuts, Cornetto ice cream cones, jelly candies, and LOTS of chocolate!

Regards,
Rob

PS - I'm doing fine, my knee continues to get better and the physio on my left shoulder seems to be helping. General comment -
getting old SUCKS!
