Just an update on the AC system problem I was having a while back...
To summarize, I had installed a brand new aluminum compressor from Applied, but no matter what I did could never
get good pressure or cooling out of it, despite changing every single part of the system (in some cases, twice),
and trying all different levels of charge with a duracool equivalent. And yes, I did all the required flushing, vacuuming,
oil, etc.
In the end, I gave up, pulled the new compressor, slapped a new rear seal on the leaky old compressor, and reinstalled.
We now have decent cooling again (well, decent for a GMC anyway).
Thankfully, JimK was gracious enough to take back the new compressor, so all I'm out is the expensive hoses the new compressor ate,
a case of refrigerant, and the numerous parts I replaced while trying to solve the problem (plus a lot of time, frustration, and several hot road trips).
Hopefully we'll get a few trips with working AC for a change.

But, what was the problem, Karen?
Has Jim proven that the compressor was actually bad to begin with? Could
the same problem be what is plaguing Richard?
How does one prove a compressor good anyhow?

One proves it good by getting cold air. Unfortunately, not getting cold air doesn't necessarily prove it bad.

This thread from July 11th leads me to believe there were a lot of problems with those aluminum compressors:

If the one Richard has is the light aluminum S6 one with the hose-destroying bolt heads sticking out the sides, could
be a similar problem, though I'd at least try changing the expansion valve before giving up on it.

I'll stay with the original heavy 6 piston GM Frigidaire design that has been time proven. Though GM did use Sandens for fitment on vehicles like the C4 ZR1. Did we prove rotation direction was correct?
