Hello all, any ideas on a way to unlock the fresh water lid on a 78 Royale? Is the key the same one that opens the entry door? Any ideas on a alternate way to unlock the water lid? Key subitutions ? Thanks..

Thanks Jim, it might come down to that. I'm hoping for a cheaper fix first.

Take a 2# slide hammer with a screw on the end. Screw it into the key hole,
bam! bam! Open sesame, go to ace hardware and buy a new lock. They are
cheap. Easy to change. Universal stuff.

Do not do this with an Avion fresh water inlet. Do not lose the key. I have found this key blank is difficult to find. Water inlet made by Theford. E-mailed them with no response about replacement. Real bummer.

My '78 Royale didn't have a key for the fresh water door when I bought it. It was also missing a key for the outside "tool box door" (the one that opens up to the storage under the front-facing dinette seat).

I took it to a locksmith, and they looked at the fresh water door, and handed me an off-the-shelf key that works like a champ. They said it was a common key... might be worth a shot if you have a good locksmith nearby.

Scutter,

When I was at the latest Montgomery, TX rally, I left using the spare key set. I have a 78 Royale. I got advice to just pry out the middle of the fresh water door and it would pop open with no damage. Then I guess you could remove the lock set and get another one cheaply locally. Or take to the local locksmith and avoid a service call. I had the key, just not with me.

Best,

Carey
