I just pulled the intake manifold off, I want to block the exhaust crossover and make sure I didn't have a vacuum leak which it looks like there was at least 1 and both crossover ports were leaking into the valley so I think it's a good thing I didn't put it off any longer. I'm going to order the gasket set from Applied with the block off plates.
I read that with the block off plates in you don't need the turkey tray, is this correct? mine's in pretty bad shape, I bent it taking it off. Intake manifold looks good no signs of cracking, I'll get it tanked to clean it up and then give it a final inspection. Probably pull the valve covers for a paint job and re seal and if time allows do the exhaust manifold gaskets while I'm in there.
Is there anything I should be doing at the same time while I have it apart? Suggestions on a good brand of valve cover gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets?

Brian,
This gasket: http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/827 does not use the turkey tray.
When you install it follow the enclosed instructions TO THE LETTER and you won't have any vacuum leaks.
Even though you might not be running fuel injection use O2 sensor compatible RTV / Silicone sealer; you (or the next owner) may want
to install EFI.

Put in a valley oil splash shield to keep oil from sloshing up.
These are available from Applied GMC
