If no plug connectors, label with tape cut and splice when you get the
headliner up. It's also your last chance to run extra lighting while you
are there.
I hate saying ..".I should've" after I've completed a job..

Ours (77 Eleganza II) also had plugs on the wires that came out of the headliner. If you don't I'd cut them off and get some insulated male/female connectors and a crimping tool and crimp them in place. Make one of the wires from the ceiling male and the other female and you won't hook them up backward. LEDs care about polarity, others not so much.
