Just another sort of happy day for my GMC. Yesterday, the fresh water
tank went empty, or so I thought, because all of a sudden the waterpump
wasn't working anymore. Went to a local state park, did dump and fill up
thing, and tried the pump again. No go.

I already had the Shureflo pump in my Amazon shopping cart for Saturday
delivery, when I decided to take a closer look at it.

After removing the sort of permanent bed setup in the back, unscrewing
the 10 or so screws, it turned out, that someone once put a fuse inline
to the pump. That fuse probably saved the water pump when she ran dry.
Out in the car, to Autozone, get a new fuse, put it in, Et Voila! pump
works again.

I am happy.

I had a similar (though not as pleasant...) experience a couple weeks ago. The Jabsco macerator had been struggling more and more to prime itself, and it was taking longer and longer to drain the tanks. So I get a rebuild kit from Applied, rinsed a few hundred gallons of fresh water through the black tank, and started taking it apart. I have no idea what was stuck in there, but it has been there since before I bought the coach a couple years ago... it was some sort of fabric, and I pulled the rough equivalent of about 3/4ths of a bandana out of the inlet side, and from around the impeller. That is to say, I am really impressed the poor macerator was doing anything under those conditions.

And a related aside - my beloved PO put a self-resetting circuit breaker in line with the macerator power lead... pretty smart, IMHO.
