Our New and Improved coach, now with Fuel Injection an Electronic Distributor and a high-falutin EBL just took us for an evening in the redwoods.
From Fremont we drove to the coast looking for something nice and I thought about Big Basin, not remembering what a torturous drive it is up into the Santa Cruz mountains (peaks about 2,000’ from sea level). She drove beautifully - what a pleasure to have a smooth and responsive engine under foot.
I enlisted the help of the folks on the GMC EFI list (most of whom are here too) to help get me through the process. If I were to do this again I’d do it in 1/10 the time. No futzing and worrying and just getting her done. Just like I’ve heard so many times - this really is a straight forward project. It was likely made easier by the fact that I have the Rockwell intake manifold, and Jim K just a few miles away!
I did have trouble with the installation but Jim kindly squeezed me in and found a bad throttle body that he replaced as well as a mis-connected sensor. In no time we were on the road. Randy Van Winkle helped tremendously and now we are feeling the benefits of many acronyms - EFI, EBL, ESC, etc.
I can not overestimate the value of this community, the GMC EFI community, and the wonderful support particularly from Randy and Jim K. I’m lucky to live in Fremont and have Jim so close.
Also - and I should have this tattooed onto my forehead - don’t be so timid!

Larry,
Your a great guy to work with unlike some that give us crap and assume we
understand all their wires and gadgets that are not even close to stock.
Randy Van Winkle has been a tremendous help to us as he understands the EBL
and willing to assist us big time.

Well done, Larry,
It's great to have a happy ending. That's the way to stick with it. I learned a lot, too. I've never seen anything like the helpfulness of this forum. No secret handshake or attitudes like, "I know it, but you are out of luck." So glad you got 40 miles per gallon, too, reading between the lines! Seriously, you deserve the joy of having a nice running coach that's dependable.
Best,
Carey

We’re back from our trip north to the coast and the coach ran like a champ. The engine starts right up and I can go at any moment, little need to warm up. The right front wheel is eager to spin as never before and I’m sure with some tuning I’ll approach 10 MPG.
I didn’t have the laptop plugged in for this trip, but I’ll pull a few runs over time and forever improve the way it runs!
