We have a Magellan 5045T-EU that will not pick up the satellite signal. Maybe needs antenna repair?? Has anyone had experience repairing these units? I expect that it is less expensive to purchase a new unit instead of trying to have the unit repaired at a shop. I have quickly performed an internet search for repairs and found nothing.

Thanks

As far as Magellan is concerned that is a throw away item after 1 year. If you return it to them they will give you a discount certificate on a new one.

It is kind of like buying a new Ford. After 3 years they do not want to hear from you unless you want to buy a new one.

I noticed the discount certificate mentioned on their website. I was wondering if anyone had tried to make the repair themselves.

Same for Rand-McNally.

>repair themselves

I've determined that the 7720 locks up due to overheating. I have disassembled the case and have the guts working but I haven't decided how I want to address the repair. I'd rather it be passive, so I'll probably try a modified case first.

Same for any Modern electronics.........its simply that the costs of repair exceed the cost of a new unit (to the manufacturer if not you.....) so
it makes sense to simply offer coupon to buy new (and likely bigger and better) unit.

I've had my Tom Tom for years now and its still working fine and previous one was fine until daughter broke the screen whilst dodging tram in Philly!

That reminds me, I must update my maps on it......
