My Onan runs fine but I pulled it on the engine crane to clean up a PO mess and do some 'back to factory' wire routing. The extension had pinched so they ran some wire across the top instead of following the armoured cable and battery cables path. Also checking for chafing and doing new convoluted tube, general saftey stuff. The 1900 box is rusty so will replace that and add grometts where needed. It would be nice to get the same type and color code wire to run. Might I find this at a big RV type store? Also should I replace the rear bearing while out or can it be cleaned and re greased? Thanks

John,
Most of the larger West Marine stores have an assortment of wire - both color and gauge - that they sell by the foot. It is never at a good price, but the convenience is great.

Thanks Matt. I was going to check them out. I also need to pick something up to re coat the Duotherm fiberglass covers as you can see the glass fibers.

John,

Unfortunately, the paint that does that best is REAL expensive. It is called a Linear Polyurethane. Only be near it with a good chemical (not particle) mask. It is probably 50$/qt by now. It will take two coats if you want it pretty. One coat the glass fibers will stick through and then you wet sand it and apply another.

I went to the closest West Marine and got some flat Romex style 18/4. The two young ladies working there in their short shorts knew nothing about their fiberglass chemicals and all the prices were off the charts. I might just paint it with left over Centari enamel in EII beige I have a spare shroud to try /fail on.

John,

I'm not surprise by anything but the 18/4. If you do the enamel and wet sand between coats, you can make the fuzzies go away. It will look good, it just won't last as long as an LPU, but then you can spend the difference on liquor or even waste some.

Matt
