I've had two alternators fail in less than a year's time. The second-to-latest one lasted less than a year and less than 500 miles. I failed to get the first alternator that died back from the mechanic, but do have the second one. I'm planning to do a post-mortem/rebuild on it.

Is anyone else having trouble like this or did I just get a lemon? Am I doing something wrong with the installation or wiring?

It seems like the only 27SI alternators on the market anymore are remanufactured. I've heard horror stories about how little they do when they "remanufacture" starters and alternators. Is there a source for new 27SIs or better-quality remans?

Thanks for your help!
