So I have decided to try to get my dash a/c working. The belt has been off the compressor for quite a long time, but I was able to turn the drive plate by hand.

First order of business is getting a belt the right size. Several trips to parts store and I decided 61 5/8" is the length. Mine is a 78 coach, but some PO had installed a 455 (so I never know what stuff fits).

I have read several of the threads about 7/16" belts and 10 mm wrenches. The local Oreeilly's has two choices. One is a house brand "MasterPro" belt (cost about $5), the other is a Gates brand (cost ~$21). The thing is a 10 mm wrench does fit over the Gates belt, but does not fit over the cheaper MasterPro belt.

I ended up buying both of them. I am not sure which is really the better choice. I would be interested in hearing what the opinions are. For now (as I am just testing trying to get some cold air) I have installed the cheaper, but wider MasterPro belt.

At least I can start troubleshooting the rest of the a/c system now.
