Just finished my aluminum radiator install...the original was rough, about 7 or 8 rows across the bottom had been brazed shut due to a big chunk missing, looked lite road debris damage, PO or PPO installed the shield after the repair.
Main question, are the end caps (tanks) worth saving?

Yes. Save the tanks. You can buy new cores but not new tanks.

Sean,
Yes, if the caps are in good shape it is possible to install a new core between them.

Sean,
Holey crap! I wonder what the hell hit that radiator, sure glad I've got one of the radiator protectors on Double Trouble:

The reason a radiator shop would be happy to pull the tanks is because it is a relatively simple job - heat the solder up with a
torch and pull them off. The radiator is brass and is worth a fair few bucks.
If you can't find one that will pull them off take a Sawzall and cut through the core about 1/2 inch in from the tanks.
Regards,
Rob M.

The radiator shop in town was happy to pull the tanks for me for no charge.
