Hello GMC Netters,

I have had a problem with the Latch/Lock on the coach's glove box
door. The assembly was very loose and would not latch tightly.

So, I put the key in the lock and with a bit of fiddling around
with it, I was able to take it apart.

Looking at the parts manual, I found that the assembly consist of
the three components that I have after taking it apart:

5) Cylinder Assembly which is the knob
6} Escutcheon
7) Case Assembly which is the lock assembly

Installed the Case Assembly using the Escutcheon in the glove box
door with the notch in the Case Assembly in the correct position
in the door which also aligns the lock mechanism up the inside of
the glove box latch.

What is the procedure for installing the cylinder assembly into the
installed case assembly?

thanks in advance for any advice

Larry,

The fifth or sixth wafer of the lock cylinder is actually the retainer for the cylinder. Now that you have the lock case secure in the door and cannot figure out hoe to get the cylinder back in, think about how you got it out. Put the key in the cylinder and all the wafers will be smooth to the surface EXCEPT ONE. That one needs to get pushed down (like with a little screw driver) as the cylinder is inserted. Then the cylinder will go home.

Matt,

thanks for the input. I was not exactly sure how it came apart
when it did.

I will take another look at it tomorrow.
