Matt,

Before contracting with Cinnabar several years ago for updating our '78
Royale (except the drive train), we considered keeping it as a "correct
original" in our garage here at home and using it only for GMCMH owner
events (similar to collector car owners) We then evaluated buying a new "C"
class (up to 30') or a new "A" class (up to 35') - both gasoline engine-
powered only, for general motorhome travel. We would have stored it offsite
near our home.

After driving the candidate coaches and evaluating their build quality, we
found them to be somewhat disappointing. Compared to the old Royale, the
things rode "rough", handling was stiff/slow to respond, much body roll,
sticking slides, etc. Fuel economy, even with the modern
computer-controlled engine/transmission, was little better than the old
Royale (which I run at 70MPH, no towed). Braking, however, was noticeably
better.

We then wrote up detailed update specifications for contract negotiations
with Cinnabar. After reaching accord on the business deal, we released
Cinnabar to "build it". They did . We have been most pleased with our
decision to keep/use the Royale as our primary motorhome.

After seeing as many different motorhomes as I did last week (400+ on site
and entering about 30), I am very sure I also qualify as a Proud Motor Home
Snob.
When one of the monster coach sales guys tried to tell me why I would like
one of the things he was selling, I answered him fast with, "It may have
more floor space, but it won't fit in my barn."
Most surprising was that there are some layouts that make it so you can't
get into the head without extending a slide.

Did you know that some people have newer and larger units and have to either
arrange planks or jacks to get them level?

Just curious (if you don't mind the question) - what was the "ballpark" of your Cinnabar invoice for the "build"?
