I’m curious about how many of you have removed the rear facing seats and replaced it with a permanent bed?

So far we have kept the seats. But that conversation has come up between my wife and I. it is just so easy to be tossing our lawn chairs, bbq and other misc, crap between the seats on the floor when traveling. I have good spots for them usually, but if it rains when we pack up, I usually just toss the wet stuff from outside into that area. It is also easier to open up those back windows when driving.
the idea of being able to put a more comfortable bed back there is the main reason for wanting to remove them. That and more permanent storage space can be added under the bed. right now we either deal with the bumpy bed, or we inflate a full size air bed on it. The air bed is plenty comfortable, but need to keep adding air daily or every other day. I am looking at spending $100 on a 2" gel memory foam topper, and also thinking of just pulling the rear seats out and do a temp. permanent bed when we are going to be sleeping back there for a longer period. they are not that hard to remove.

I presume "PB" means permanent Bed, not Palm Beach.

I have an Eleganza II which has a couch, dinette and rear facing seats. I converted to a rear bed. If I had it to do over, I would leave the rear seats and convert the couch and dinette to two single beds. The rear bed is nice for storage underneath but having to crawl over each other to get in and out is a pain. If I ever finish all my other projects, I may convert it to just such an arrangement.

I still have my fold out seats back there. I store a lot of stuff back there that I usually unload when I set up camp. When I do make it back that far to sleep, I find the fold down seats just fine for flatness. Many times I just crash on the front couch watching TV

my 26 has a queen in the rear to one side with a hinged base for access underneath. There is a counter with sink and drawers under the window on the other side. My 23 had worn out cushions in the rear seats so I folded them flat an put in a memory foam mattress, never used the rear seats and table. the 23 also has the pull down bunk bed in the rear so sitting at the rear table would be cramped.

Hi, Dolph
A standard mattress, either conventional or foam should fit. Our Eleganza
bed area is about 53 1/2 x 74 1/2, and our foam came in 4 X 30" X 72"
pieces. so we did a little piecing to fill up the space.
One layer dense foam for the bottom layer, 1 layer soft foam for the top.
Available during the camping season from Kroger, Fred Meyer, and similar
stores, between $15 & $20 for each slab. Sometimes stores have 3", some
have 4" thick slabs. Glue together if desired.

not glued, but I keep wishing I had glued them. If I had glued them, I
might be wishing I hadn't. I definitely would have either glued the
narrow filler pcs at the end of the main slab, or not used them at all.
Use an electric knife to slice to desired dimensions. You can glue just
the pieces for each layer together, or glue the whole thing up like a
mattress. Use with or without a memory foam topper. We didn't use the
memory foam in our first coach, as it wasn't available yet. Second coach
got the memory foam on top of the seats, then when we removed the seats,
on top of the foam. I don't think the it sleeps any better with the
memory foam than without. The whole foam pad is lighter than just the 2"
memory foam topper, and easier to move around. Some folks build a
tiltable platform for easy access to the space under the bed, and for
easier access to the water tank and pump on certain models.

Our seats were gone when we bought the coach. It is only the two of us, and we rarely sleep back there. The bed that was there was not very comfy. So it is gone now, and the area has become storage for toolboxes, grill, hoses, lawn chairs, etc.
Sometime I wish the seats were there (especially when you have a scenic camping spot that backs up to a lake or something). But then what to do with all the "stuff"?
It is just two of us, so we usually sleep up front.
