Greetings,
I need to put new tires on the coach. Does anyone have information as to where I can find good prices for the 8.76/16.5 tires? (No, I don't have the Alcoa's so please, let's not go there). I can find some reasonable priced tires online (ebay) for about $125 each, but am finding that having them mounted locally will run about $35 each, putting me at the $160 each price range that local tire shops are charging if I buy from them.

Currently the coach is in Quakertown, PA being worked on at Ken Frey's shop. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks much,

Just in case, here is something to consider while looking for tires. This is a quote from a GMC article warning about using radial tires on an early GMC rims:

" All GMC's were delivered with 16.5" steel wheels and 8.75 16.5 bias ply tire from 1971 through 1975. Starting in 1976, 8.75R 16.5 radial tires with radial steel wheels were a major option, but some vehicles were still delivered with the bias ply tire and wheel combination. Steel wheels for radial tires are all stamped "RADIAL" on the outer rim and were designed to resist the larger wheel loads created by the radial tires. Radial tires mounted on non-radial approved rims can cause wheel cracking resulting in slow or even rapid pressure loss. This is a major safety issue. We are requesting each owner to inspect and record each steel/aluminum wheel to assure that it matches the tires on the vehicle."

Check out Walmart. Our local Walmart charges a flat $10.00 to mount and balance tires.

If your coach is at Ken's shop I would be consider having Ken do the tires. Ken Fry uses a high quality "Road Force" tire balance machine. Combine that with balance beads and you are likely to very pleased with the results as compared to whoever is on shift at a chain store. He can also advise regarding the old non-radial rims. The non-radial rims were riveted as opposed to being welded. When Ken did my tires he sourced them at a reasonable price and I was very happy to pay for the quality mount and balance. You are in very good hands with Ken Frey.

Ken has a tire mounting and balancing machine and he mounted and balanced (with Equal) the 16" Kumho tires I got from the Tire Rack
on Double Trouble.

I would order the tires and let him mount and balance them.

He can also check the wheels and make sure they are for radial tires.

No matter where you decide to by tires from make sure you state that they must be six months or less old! The Tire Rack and Discount
Tire will advise if the stock they have meets that requirement or not.
