Is this of any interest for other GMC owners ?
I am thinking of having a small run made, the price will be £ 15 each + shipping.
This is only for replacement of your damaged VIN plate, no funny business

Emery I really hope no one does take advantage of the plates, they will only be for sale within the GMC community and I will not have more made when the 10 sets are made and sold.

The only reason for making 10 pcs is that the total cost will of them be close to have just one made.

The VIN plates had been removed from my coach and replaced with another plate riveted to the door frame from the State of Illinois. This, in part, is why she’s a Mystery Machine…

NCDOT has to inspect every antique vehicle brought into the state before they will release the title from a 1-yr 'holding' period. (They issue the title but will cancel it at the end of the year if the vehicle hasn't passed a manual inspection.) They want 2 VID identification tags on the vehicle. The Birchaven only had the one on the firewall and it wasn't too clear. Luckily, the two local agents knew me and recommended in the comments section of their inspection form that the title be cleared. I may never bring another GMC into the state but, if I do, I'm going to be sure it has a second vin plate.

RC,

I suspect they'd accept, as the second number plate, the S/N that's
stamped, upside down, on the outside of the left frame rail.

Yeah, but I had paid JimB to clean and POR-15 the chassis. Had I not been able to clear the title via the good 'ol boy network, I'd have resorted to that.

Pete, first of all, there is a slight chance that NCDOT's computer will hiccup and miss the hold period. Both of mine came from FL with clear titles and notarized bills of sale. One didn't get flagged and I got the title when first registered.

Firewall, glovebox, left chassis rail, & (I think) in the driver's footwell on the left side panel.

It is a rust conversion coating. Number of different ones out there. Some
resemble paint, some are thin and water like. Put those in a spray bottle
and wet the rusty surface. In a few minutes, they turn black and form a
glass like surface. Stops rust, but if there is extensive amounts of it,
the frame or whatever you are protecting is still weakened by the rust. If
there are holes from the rust, only correct solution is to replace.

Mine has three VIN plates. On the firewall (TZE) in the glovebox (TZE) and drivers foot area (Outlaw VIN assigned by Norris). Guess which of these the Stat of Florida used to give the PO a title and plate. I dunno if it has a stamp on the frame, I haven't looked. As long as Georgia registered it, I'm leaving it alone. I know the TZE, the Registry has the TZE, the State of Ga can go pack sand.
